Description

Sigma Defense is seeking a Ground Support Equipment Mechanic (GSEM) for our work site located at the Army's Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) at Fort Johnson, LA. The GSEM diagnoses malfunctions and repairs Ground Support Equipment (GSE); repairs and resolves maintenance faults; solves repair problems by studying drawings, wiring diagrams and schematics, and technical publications; maintains equipment records, and documents maintenance actions; and analyzes, diagnosis, and repairs GSE using conventional and digital multi-meters, voltmeters, circuit card testers, and hand tools.

As a GSEM, you will maintain a fleet of ground based mechanical equipment, perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on GSE and inspect, test, and operate GSE to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation. You will also service equipment with fuel, oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, and compressed air as well as diagnose mechanical and electronic circuitry malfunctions using test equipment, and technical publications. Secondary duties include but are not limited to operating equipment, providing dispatch services for GSE, maintaining a clean and orderly workplace, and ensuring continues good practices to maintain a safe and productive workplace.

Requirements
  • Must have a Class A driver's license, CDL preferred.
  • Must be capable of lifting 50-100 pounds assisted by other employees.
  • Must be able to deploy both CONUS and OCONUS.
  • Ability to disassemble and assemble malfunctioning GSE accessories and components.
  • Ability to remove, disassemble, repair, clean, treat for corrosion, assemble, and reinstall GSE components and accessories.
  • Ability to stencil and mark GSE in accordance with technical publications.
  • Ability to store, handle, label, use, and dispose of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards and regulations.
  • Ability to operate, clean, inspect, and service GSE towing vehicles.
  • Ability to maintain vehicle records.
  • Ability to maintain and update paper and electronic equipment records.

Personnel Clearance Level:

  • Candidate must possess or have the ability to obtain an active Secret security clearance.
  • Clearance will be sponsored for the right candidate.

Essential Job Duties (Not All-Inclusive):

  • Diagnoses, repairs and maintains ground support equipment (GSE).
  • Diagnoses system components including electrical, electronics, and emissions related fault codes etc., in order to repair or replace faulty parts, as indicated by required testing or visual observations.
  • Prepares GSE for storage and mobility deployment.
  • Uses automated maintenance data systems to monitor maintenance trends, analyze equipment requirements, maintain equipment records, and document maintenance actions.
  • Maintains fuel and grounding systems.
  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on GSE.
  • Diagnoses mechanical and electronic circuitry malfunctions.
  • Prepares GSE for storage and mobility deployment.
  • Operates, cleans, inspects and services GSE towing vehicles.
  • Work includes cross-utilization into other positions that fall within their scope of work.
  • Conditions will vary as most work will be accomplished outdoors as there will be work on the range throughout the year so temperatures will vary.
  • Activities will include 45% standing, 25% walking, 20% sitting, 5% reaching, and 5% lifting.
  • Shift hours will vary by mission requirements.
  • Must be able to work all shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed, sometimes on short notice, to support test missions.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned.

Compensation: $29.03 per hour.
