A leading institution in higher education is seeking a Purchasing Specialist to join its Procurement Services team, working onsite in Greensboro, NC. This role is an exciting opportunity for professionals who thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where integrity, attention to detail, and outstanding communication skills are key.

About the Role

As a Purchasing Specialist, you will be responsible for acquiring goods and services that support the mission of the institution. You'll work closely with departments and administrators to ensure procurement activities are conducted efficiently, ethically, and in compliance with state and federal regulations. You'll play a vital role in vendor management, strategic contract administration, and may assist in managing the University Procurement Card Program.

This position requires both independence and teamwork, and offers the chance to make a tangible impact within a respected academic environment. Office expectations are Monday-Friday, 8a-5p.

What You'll Do


  • Manage procurement activities across multiple departments
  • Evaluate purchase requisitions for accuracy and completeness
  • Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships
  • Ensure compliance with procurement laws, policies, and procedures
  • Facilitate procurement-related training across faculty and staff
  • Contribute to spend analysis and strategic sourcing initiatives
  • Utilize ERP and eProcurement systems (Ellucian Banner and Jaggaer--we will train!)



Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree with three years of experience; or Associate's degree with five years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Familiarity with procurement regulations, preferably within state or higher education systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related business software (Visio, Adobe Pro)
  • Experience with accounting principles and practices
  • Comfortable with public speaking and leading training sessions
  • Knowledge of North Carolina procurement codes, E-Procurement, and IPS is a plus



Preferred


  • Experience in higher education or government procurement
  • Professional purchasing certifications such as CPPB, CPPO, C.P.M., or CPCM
  • Experience with ERP and eProcurement platform
