Responsibilities

Peraton is looking for a Computer & Network Engineering (C&NE) Supervisor who will be responsible for the oversight and management of a C&NE team of engineers, as well as provide subject matter expertise and insight to the team. The position will support of our NASA Space Exploration Network Services and Evolution (SENSE) contract is located at the NASA White Sands Complex in Las Cruces, NM.

Peraton is the prime contractor for NASA at the White Sands Complex (WSC) near Las Cruces, New Mexico. Operating here are two functionally identical satellite ground terminals: The White Sands Ground Terminal, and the Second TDRSS Ground Terminal. These ground terminals ensure uninterrupted communications between various ground stations, NASA's orbiting fleet of Tracking and Data Relay Satellites (TDRS), customer spacecraft (satellites), and the computer systems that support such spacecraft. WSC serves as an interface for distributing satellite data to control centers and scientists who then use the daily influx of data to expand our ever-growing knowledge of the Earth and the universe.

Primary roles and responsibilities:

    Direct and monitor the daily activities of the C&NE Engineering team.
  • Develop efficiencies within the group to best determine balanced workloads based on skillsets.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of computer and network engineers, providing guidance on technical issues and project management.
  • Network Architecture: Design and implement robust network architectures that meet organizational needs, including WANs and LANs.
  • System Management: Oversee the management of servers, storage, and virtualization environments to ensure reliability and performance.
  • Troubleshooting: Lead the troubleshooting of complex network and system issues, coordinating with internal teams and external entities as necessary.
  • Security Oversight: Develop and implement network security strategies, ensuring compliance with IT Security standards.
  • Documentation and Standards: Maintain comprehensive documentation of network configurations, procedures, and policies.
  • Training and Development: Facilitate training programs for team members to enhance technical skills and knowledge.
  • Closely work with the IT Security lead and ISSO to formulate plans of action for any type of system vulnerabilities.
  • Assist Department Manager with the creation and presentation of contractual deliveries and reports to NASA.
  • Any other duty as assigned by the Department Manager.

Additional skillsets and responsibilities:

  • Prior MS Windows and Linux system administration experience.
  • Experience with administrating virtual infrastructures.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of advanced network administrator concepts including (but not limited to): DNS and ARP resolution, IP addressing and subnetting, IP fundamentals, firewall maintenance, switch and router management, as well as OSI model encapsulation.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of best cyber and IT security practices in relation to network management.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work on multiple projects (hands on) as well as leading team members
  • Respond to and resolve operational incidents, coordinating with relevant teams to identify root causes and prevent future occurrences.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience: 6 years' experience with BS/BA, 8 years' experience with AS degree; in lieu of degree, 10 years of related experience may be considered.
  • Prior experience working with space communication systems and leading projects and/or teams.
  • 6 years' experience MS Windows and Red Hat Linux administration
  • 5 years' experience working with cyber (IT) security concepts.
  • Security clearance - this position requires the candidate to have an active Secret security clearance and to maintain the clearance thereafter.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Completed Security + certification.
  • Experience, or ability to learn in a large scale, dynamic environment requiring immediate problem response.
  • Experience in root cause analysis.
  • Familiarity with Cisco Nexus, Cisco Catalyst, Cisco ASA, Juniper Junos SRX networking platforms, and Rukus networking.

Target Salary Range

$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
