The Opportunity

Adobe Podcast is on a mission to democratize high-quality media creation. We're building an AI-first web platform that enables anyone to produce professional audio and video content-no expertise required. Our team operates with the speed and agility of a startup, backed by the resources and stability of Adobe.

We're looking for our first Director of Engineering to lead the charge in shipping innovative features and delivering exceptional user experiences. You'll join a collaborative, New York-based team and work directly with an experienced GM who has founded multiple successful companies and products. This is a unique opportunity to help shape both the product and the engineering culture from the ground up.

You'll be a player-coach, managing a growing team of full-stack engineers while staying hands-on with prototyping and technical strategy. You'll foster a culture of customer empathy, technical curiosity, and impactful delivery-bringing new technology (like generative AI) to bear on creative workflows and real-world marketing outcomes.

What You'll Do

  • Provide technical guidance and review across architecture, features, timelines, budgets, and test strategies

  • Identify project risks and drive creative solutions

  • Optimize engineering and operational processes for speed and quality

  • Partner with Adobe Research to shape requirements for AI models and technologies

  • Design and build prototypes for workflows and product features, leveraging creative media knowledge and emerging tech

  • Lead with a servant-leadership mindset-supporting, guiding, and developing high-performing teams

  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and leadership across the engineering organization

  • Engage in idea-driven collaboration and thoughtful debate, balancing innovation with product velocity

  • Report directly to and collaborate closely with the GM of Adobe Podcast

What You'll Bring

  • 12+ years of hands-on development experience

  • 5+ years in engineering management

  • Proficiency in Ruby on Rails and React

  • Proven experience building scalable, reliable single-page web applications powered by complex backend workflows

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Deep understanding of agile development, automated testing, and right-sized process

  • Curiosity about (or experience with) creative media production and content creation workflows

  • A founder's mindset-ownership, autonomy, and a history of delivering high-impact work

  • A passion for building diverse, high-performing teams

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The U.S. pay range for this positionis $179,300 -- $354,600 annually. Paywithin this range varies by work locationand may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills,and experience. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the job location during the hiring process.

At Adobe, for sales roles starting salaries are expressed as total target compensation (TTC = base + commission), and short-term incentives are in the form of sales commission plans. Non-sales roles starting salaries are expressed as base salary and short-term incentives are in the form of the Annual Incentive Plan (AIP).

In addition, certain roles may be eligible for long-term incentives in the form of a new hire equity award.
