The primary purpose of this role is to assist the breeder in research and development of the watermelon breeding programs at the Vegetable Platform, Woodland. The breeder will lead watermelon breeding programs to develop new varieties, including designing and executing field and greenhouse experiments, data collection, pollinations, harvesting, and seed management. Duties:
- Collaborate with sales and commercial teams to understand market needs and product performance, contributing to crop strategy and product profile development.
- Implement data-driven decision-making processes, utilizing analytics, predictive models, and genomic selection tools to enhance breeding efficiency.
- Design and manage nurseries and yield trials, providing input on hybrid advancement decisions and ensuring alignment with target product profiles.
- Assess pipeline performance quantitatively, generate reports on product performance, and determine genetic gain rates for different market segments.
- Collaborate with Trait Development Leads and Genetic scientists on marker-trait associations, innovative traits, and germplasm management.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and stewardship policies, completing required training and maintaining effective communication with the breeding team.

Qualifications
- PhD in Plant Breeding, Genetics, or related field with at least 2 years of experience in commercial or academic plant breeding.
- In-depth knowledge of plant breeding, genetics, statistics, field design, and advanced breeding techniques including genome-wide selection (GWS) and marker-assisted breeding.
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to organize, manage, and prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines and budget constraints in a team-oriented, dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office and relevant corporate software, with the ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities.
Additional Information Salary for this role is $101,600 - $152,400 per year. What We Offer:
