Job Summary

The Business Development Officer (BDO) is a leadership role supervising a team of four professionals who are responsible for several programs of highest importance to the county's economic success. By supervising the Business Retention and Expansion team, the person selected for this job makes a direct contribution to retaining businesses and growing the county's tax base. A strategically important part of the county's economy is its agriculture sector. The position supervises the Business Development Manager for Agriculture, whose client and prospect pipeline consists of a wide-ranging variety of rural businesses (farms: vegetables, protein, grain, trees, and many more types, farm wineries, craft breweries, among others). This position also supervises the Workforce Development Manager, who is responsible for providing workforce solutions for companies in Loudoun and companies considering relocating their operations to Loudoun. The BDO is assigned special projects needed to implement strategic priorities.

Hiring salary commensurate with experience.




Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in business administration and management, community and economic development, public administration and policy, urban planning, sustainable development, agriculture and rural development, real estate development, or a closely related field and four (4) years of related work experience working with business, civic, and elected leaders including one (1) year of supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience with digital tools such as customer relations management (CRM) software (e.g., Salesforce), Microsoft Office applications and International Economic Development Council's (IEDC's) Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) certification
preferred.


Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check, credit check and DMV driving record check.

The department welcomes working from the office with opportunity to work one day remotely every two weeks.
Occasional early morning, evening, or weekend work is required.
