This role supervises day-to-day billing and payment operations, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with corporate policies, financial regulations, and departmental KPIs. This role will supervise a team, provide insights to the Billing and Payments Manager on best practices and collaborate with internal/external stakeholders to optimize processes in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.

What you'll be working on...



  • Oversees day-to-day billing operations, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing for all customer accounts, including but not limited to, Residential, Commercial, Industrial, and Marketer customers.
  • Monitors and resolves discrepancies or issues related to billing and payments and maintain documentation regarding such issues in compliance with internal audit processes.
  • Maintains compliance with internal policies, applicable regulations, and SOX compliance standards.
  • Partners with Quality Experience and Contact Center teams to monitor trends in customer inquiries/complaints to identify billing/payment coaching opportunities and/or process improvements that will improve our overall customer's experience.
  • Leads, mentors, and develops high-performing billing and payments team. Sets clear performance objectives and regularly reviews progress. Fosters a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Acts as point of escalation for complex billing and payment inquiries.
  • Performs necessary duties in the absence of the Billing and Payments Manager and Customer Billing/Payments Representatives.
  • Identifies and presents ideas, assisting Manager to improve processes and procedures that maintain accuracy while improving efficiency and production.
  • Performs as a strong change agent to help the team successfully adapt to larger organizational changes and/or new business processes.
  • Partners with the Collections team to manage Accounts Receivable (AR) and develop strategies to reduce outstanding balances.
  • Support with testing and validation related to billing system updates and enhancements.



Who you are...



  • High school diploma required
  • Associate's degree in accounting, Business Management or a related field preferred
  • Knowledge/experience in the utilities industry
  • Two (2) years billing and payments, accounts receivable or related experience
  • Demonstrated Supervisory/Leadership experience
  • Regular driver's license
  • Exposure to US Regulated and De-Regulated Markets
  • Strong knowledge of billing systems (ex. SAP, Oracle) and payment processing platforms
  • Strong leadership, communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, self-motivated, and high initiative
  • Strong analytical capabilities and attention to detail
  • Strong technical background, proficient in tools such as Excel, Tableau, Power BI, SQL, Database Development, etc.
  • Analyze trends and provide recommendations for process improvements
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage projects
