Job Description Summary:

The High Availability Architecture Group within the Systems Engineering directorate is seeking a Reliability Engineer to guide and facilitate concept development, mission-system analysis, and requirement derivation, verification, & certification; of complex strategic deterrence, missile defense, hypersonic, space, precision guided munition, autonomous air/sea vehicle, and biotechnology systems.

This handpicked candidate must possess a unified Reliability, System Safety, Survivability, and Nuclear Weapon Safety Surety (NWSS) expertise that can expand Draper's insight to address faults, hazards, errors, and failures which remain prevalent throughout critical enterprises, infrastructure, systems, and operations.

A successful candidate will be equipped to propose modern solutions embedded with reliability and safety awareness, that adhere to FOD, MIL-STD-882, Navy, NASA, FAA, and other DoD standards, to proactively mitigate unacceptable loss and unrecoverable downtime throughout their lifecycle. The multidisciplinary proficiencies supporting this initiative are Reliability Concepts & Design Principles, Mission Assurance & System Safety, Resilient System Architecture, System Reliability Optimization.

Specific responsibilities include:
*Conducting Reliability Analyses that inform one another across the Systems Engineering lifecycle including STPA, Physics of Failure Analyses (FTA, Fishbone Generation, FMMEA/FMECAs, Environmental Stress Screening (ESS), and Accelerated Life Testing (ALT))
*Maturing system reliability optimization tools that leverage probability, Bayesian theory, and common distributions (exponential, normal, binomial, Poisson, etc.) for optimization, estimations, and predictions.
*On-time delivery and maturation of reliability work packages such as: Physics of Failure Analysis Traceability | Lifecycle Profile Models | Reliability Requirements | Reliability Allocations | Failure Rate Predictions | Service Life Evaluations | Availability and Maintainability Evaluations
*Socializing and demystifying Reliability, System Safety, Nuclear Weapon Safety Surety, and Part Survivability best practices and techniques to internal cross-disciplinary stakeholders such as: System Architecture | Avionics | Software | Hardware design teams
*Advocating for Reliability, Availability, & Maintainability (RAM) best practices, to internal and external stakeholders & customers to maintain a healthy reliability culture
*Assessing technical data packages for compliance with Reliability processes and strategies
*Quick turn application of critical thinking for problem framing, analyzing, and synthesizing complex problems qualitatively and quantitatively
*Documenting insights, findings, lessons learned, and maintaining a knowledge base of contributions within Draper's collaborative Digital Engineering tool suite

Duties/Responsibilities
* Performs analysis approaches for a particular problem and independently execute assignments.
* Independently execute system engineering lifecycle assignments; concept and architecture design, integration, testing and operation.
* Drive solutions to complex problems with limited direction - contribute to task planning and test development, propose ways forward, and adapt appropriately to changes in program requirements
* Demonstrated ability to lead small teams (fewer than five people). Seeks to align team towards program goals and builds trust within the team.
* Able to provide insight and suggest design modifications based on analysis outcomes, and to apply analysis techniques across a range of technical challenges.
* Identify program/system-level technical risks and develop and execute mitigation strategies for them.
* Actively mentor less experienced engineers and provide thoughtful, constructive feedback.
* Work in a collaborative multidisciplinary environment including stakeholders and external partners.
* Contribute to translation of requirements into technical and architectural decisions.

Skills/Abilities
* Excellent mathematical skills.
