A qualified Maintenance Mechanic-Machinist must perform highly diversified duties to plan, layout and perform a variety of operations pertaining to mechanics, machining, and plumbing. Obtains and analyzes specifications, layout metal stock, set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes. Fit and assemble parts to make, repair or modify tips, dies and jigs. Repair a wide variety of wire processing machinery. Machine a wide variety of parts when needed, and assist mechanics, electricians, and pipe fitters on installations. Perform other similar and related duties as required or directed. Installs, maintains, and repairs manufacturing equipment and fixtures. Conducts general maintenance activities primarily on machinery and related equipment. Maintains repair and maintenance records. Troubleshoots problems and escalates the most complex issues to senior coworkers. Typically has 3-5 years of experience and works under broad supervision.

Essential Duties:

  • Use of measuring gauges - verniers, micrometers, depth mics, inside/outside calipers, etc.
  • Knowledge and use of lathes, bridgeports, drill press, etc.
  • Ability to hold close tolerances + or - .001 since the work is specialized, which requires a high degree of skill and close limits of accuracy and ingenuity.
  • Select materials to be used from a range of metals and plastics based on hardness and heat tolerance
  • Knowledge of SAE and Metric systems of measurement.
  • Knowledge/ability to read and draw blueprints using computer software programs.
  • Ability to troubleshoot machinery and make repairs in a timely fashion.
  • Ability to order materials and replenish stock when needed.
  • Ability to cut inside/outside machine threads.
  • Work alongside other trades personnel, as required.
  • Perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • Ability to machine and fabricate parts (including performing all types of welding and cutting torches processes) using a variety of raw materials (metals, plastics, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and the ability to make repairs on those systems.
  • General Computer Skills Knowledge and ability to use Word & Excel Software Programs. Use of AutoCAD or AutoCAD Light Software Programs a plus.

Requirements:

  • 2 year certificate of completion or degree from machinist training technical college or institution.
  • The following relevant experience will be considered in lieu of certificate or degree.
  • 3 - 5 years of verifiable on the job (hands on) involvement in performing mechanical responsibilities (tasks and duties) in a manufacturing or repair service business environment.
  • Self-motivated with a desire to learn and continuously improve performance. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks or assignments, and adapt to changes.
  • Attention to detail and safe work practices, and work cooperatively in group situations.
