Job Type: Support Staff - Union Bargaining Unit: TWU - B&G Regular/Temporary: Regular Hours Per Week: 40 Standard Work Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, 6:00 am - 2:00 pm Building: Power House Salary Range: $51.95 - $51.95/hour The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Summary The Assistant Watch Engineer assists the Watch Engineer in the operation, monitoring and maintenance of high-pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment in accordance with University policy. The Assistant Watch Engineer is responsible for the safe and reliable operation, preventive maintenance and corrective repair of plant systems. Will be required to perform and/or assist in any routine and emergency operations function of the plant. Duties of the Assistant Watch Engineer cover but not limited to proper rounds, log entries, proper start up and shut down procedures in accordance with University policy. The Assistant Watch Engineer may work across campuses as needed. Responsibilities Chemical testing and treatment of boilers water and campus loop water. Changing oil tanks, oil soundings and cleaning strainers. Switching oil burners. Monitoring of distributed control system as well as monitoring/control of emissions comply with EPA standards. Monitoring the data acquisition system (D.A.S., SCADA, BMS) that monitors campus buildings, room temperatures, machinery, cooling towers, absorbers and all auxiliary equipment that requires action prompted by alarms. Maintain, repair and operate system equipment, auxiliary system and utilize computer-monitoring systems while working independently or under limited supervision and direction in accordance with sound engineering practices. Operating and monitoring air compressor that feeds the campus air loop and power plant. If conditions warrant, switch to alternate units and switch valves to keep the system in normal conditions. Must perform any duties assigned in an emergency within job classification. Maintain a clean and organized work environment. Schedule requirements: Available to work overtime. Available for emergency calls or open shifts. Must be available for shifts on weekends, holidays. Emergency conditions and weather conditions, in compliance with the "State of emergency Memorandum of Agreement". Minimum Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent. Current NYC Refrigeration System Operation's Certificate of Qualification. Two (2) years' experience in the operation and maintenance of high-pressure boilers and chillers. All Licenses and certifications required by the city, state, and governing agencies.
