The Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences at UC Irvine offers five Master of Science programs, six PhD programs, and four Professional Masters programs (SSPs). MS and PhD degrees are available in Computer Science, Informatics, Networked Systems, Software Engineering, and Statistics, and a joint doctoral program with San Diego State University in Computational Science. We offer Professional Masters degrees in Computer Science, Data Science, Human Computer Interaction and Design, and Software Engineering. The Graduate Student Affairs team provides advising to 1000+ students in the areas of recruitment and admissions, degree requirements and degree conferrals, fellowships and funding, student success, intervention, and campus resources, and international student policies. We're also very excited to have a separate dedicated career services team for our professional students.


Your Role on the Team

Reporting to the ICS Senior Director of Graduate Student Programs, incumbent serves as the Graduate Program Director for the ICS Graduate Student Affairs Office. Supervises, trains, and evaluates graduate student services advisors. Provides technical assistance to advisors on complex issues such as exceptions to policy, recommendations to change department and program policy, and decision-making approval on precedent-setting actions. Provides advising to graduate students involving a variety of issues such as recruitment, admissions, degree requirements, international student support, student programming, academic conditional status, capstone, thesis and dissertation preparation, and degree conferral. Participates with the Senior Director and the Associate Dean in the development and monitoring of policies and procedures for Graduate Student Affairs operations. May represent the student services function on committees and other organization entities. Manages external relations and campus fellowships opportunities, applications, and awards. Manges website content, and events. Works closely with all ICS departments and programs in the school, as well as with the Graduate Division.

Hybrid schedule: 3 days a week on site on average, occasionally more. Occasional late evening and weekend events.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
  • Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
  • Skills in monitoring / assessing people, processes or services, to make improvements.
  • Skills in project management, social perceptiveness to be aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
  • Ability in problem identification and reasoning. Ability to think strategically and anticipate consequences.
  • Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems using persuasion and leadership.
  • Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • * 4 to 6 years of work experience in higher education or related institutions in recruitment, admissions, and student services
  • * Knowledge and understanding of graduate programs in information and computer sciences, and self-supporting programs at UCI.
  • * Supervisory experience; skills in providing effective training and development.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $$69,500.00- $$83,000.00 (Annual).
