DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Wildlife Biologist 1, you will provide field and technical support for the implementation of Bureau of Wildlife Management (BWM) and Region programs. You will work as part of a fully functional wildlife management team with shared BWM program support among wildlife management supervisor, wildlife biologist 1, wildlife technician, bio-aide, and intern positions. You will have the opportunity to work as a team to achieve the goals and objectives identified in the agency's strategic plan, BWM Species management plans, and the Wildlife Action Plan.

Within this role, you will be responsible for performing professional wildlife management work while implementing, evaluating, and communicating wildlife research and management. This includes, but is not limited to wildlife population monitoring, habitat conservation and management, wildlife response to management, wildlife impact assessment, wildlife planning, and wildlife health monitoring. You will also be providing wildlife management expertise and technical assistance at the regional level. Lastly, you will ensure projects, surveys, and plan development follow established guidelines, meet expected deadlines, and provide maximum benefits to wildlife.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, home headquartered
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Alternate work schedule may be available.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Five years of experience conducting wildlife management research, including one year in a professional capacity, and thirty-six college credits in wildlife management, wildlife biology, animal or plant ecology, zoology, botany, or a closely related field, and six college credits in statistics or biometry; or
  • One year of professional experience conducting wildlife management research, and a bachelor's degree which includes thirty-six college credits in wildlife management, wildlife biology, animal or plant ecology, zoology, botany, or a closely related field, and six college credits in statistics or biometry; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes thirty-six college credits in wildlife management, wildlife biology, animal or plant ecology, zoology, botany, or a closely related field, and six college credits in statistics or biometry.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
