Overview
Sierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies. We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems. Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). This position is located on the TEST 3 contract, located at White Sands Test Facility (WSTF) in Las Cruces, New Mexico. EOE/Minority/Female/Disabled/Veteran
Responsibilities
TEST3 Safety Professionals will report directly to the TEST3 Safety Branch Manager. The Safety Professional will be responsible for the following on the TEST3 contract:
Assist with the implementation of organizational Environment, Health, & Safety (EHS) Programs and Standards to identify and control project risks
- Participate in Project Safety Pre-Planning/Job Hazard Analysis activities
- Provide on-site consultation, coaching and collaboration with project teams and contractors to ensure a safe project work environment
- Conduct safety audits/inspections at project sites to help ensure compliance with WSTF EHS programs, procedures, and standards
- Help ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, related rules, and regulations (OSHA, NIOSH, NFPA, EPA, etc.)
- Identify actual and potential hazards and provide consultation to eliminate and/or control hazards and manage risks to acceptable levels
- Deliver EHS Training Classes
- Stop any unsafe activity or action immediately and work with contractors and Project Teams to develop a safe work plan to resume work safely
- Review incident reports for Close Calls/Mishaps and assist with investigations
- Review and provide input on Site Specific Safety Plans for subcontractor projects
- Serve as a Safety Representative on System Safety Analysis and Design Review committees
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Minimum: Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience (8 years) in the field of specialization.
- Knowledge of EHS standards and experience in conducting EHS audits/inspections
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with emphasis on maintaining positive business relationships within all levels of the organization
- Ability to identify unsafe work practices and vocalize productive corrective actions
- Ability to train and coach colleagues and coworkers on issues relating to EHS
- Effective interpersonal and written and oral communication skills
- Proficient in Windows applications - MS Office, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Teams
Preferred
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS); Other safety-related degrees and/or safety-related experience will be considered
- Experience working with Asbestos, Lead Paint, HAZWOPER, Ergonomics, Hearing Conservation, Indoor Air Quality, Biological or Chemical Hazards, or other experience working with industrial/occupational health disciplines
- Experience working with Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, Construction Safety, Electrical Safety, Excavation Safety, or other experience working with industrial/occupational safety disciplines
- OSHA 30 Hour Construction or General Industry Safety Certification
- Completion of accredited OSHA Training Institute courses
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST)
- Knowledge of regulations and guidance documents from OSHA, EPA, CDC, ACGIH, NIOSH, NFPA, AIHA, etc.
- Experience with the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP)
- NASA or other Government contract experience
Physical Demands/Work Conditions
- Individual may need to drive an automobile to visit project jobsites
- Individual may be exposed to varying temperatures including very hot (above 90 degrees F) or very cold (below 32 degrees F) and all-weather conditions when visiting projects with outside construction activity
- Individual may be exposed to cramped workspaces, exposure to sounds and noise levels that require hearing protection
- Must be able to sit, talk, hear, and stand frequently throughout the day. Must be able to climb, reach above shoulder height, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl frequently. The position occasionally may require lifting objects (up to 50 pounds)
- Individuals may occasionally be exposed to hazardous conditions, high places and /or hazardous equipment. May work with or around chemicals that require knowledge of a safety data sheet
