Role Overview

The Senior Legal Counsel for Transportation Services is responsible for providing legal support for the Moving Services division with a specific focus on, Transportation law, and Van Line Agent relationships. The role will support the Litigation Manager and HHG paralegal on HHG claims and legal matters. The Senior Legal Counsel, Transportation Services will also represent SIRVA in the industry as a speaker and presenter at local, regional, and national HHG industry events. With direct oversight from the VP & General Counsel, the Attorney is also responsible for researching and providing general guidance on legal issues related to the business operations.

*This position is open to being filled as a virtual/hybrid role in the mid-west, with the requirement to travel to our Fort Wayne, Indiana office monthly or bimonthly.

Responsibilities



  • Act as the lead resource on transportation law, and Van Line Agent relationship matters. Provide general legal and contract support for SIRVA moving practices and procedures on legal compliance for SIRVA internal teams including Military, Corporate, Consumer, International Shipping. Support alternative transportation activities and product development. Act as a resource for Transportation law, International HHG matters, Franchise Law, and HHG Tariff legal matters.
  • Work directly with Van Line Agents on Van line related matters in support of Van Line leadership; Participates in Industry functions including preparing and presenting legal updates to the industry groups
  • Draft, review and negotiate moving related supplier and other moving business services agreements
  • Provide general corporate legal support for corporate matters including Real Estate matters, intellectual property law, marketing and publication review, and being a resource to other departments, attending meetings to discuss, contract management, contract process, best practices, document retention policy and privacy and compliance matters. Assisting on M&A and Financing Transactions
  • Manages the HHG and corporate Litigation Manager


Education/Certification Requirements



  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Licensed Attorney in at least one state required
  • Juris Doctor required


Qualifications and Experience Requirements



  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a practicing attorney in a corporate environment required
  • Minimum 5 years' experience with contract management/development required
  • Knowledge of Transportation law preferred
  • Knowledge of employment law preferred
  • Household Goods industry knowledge preferred
  • Ability to research, read and summarize and consult on laws and regulations
  • Ability to assess risk and develop business-oriented solutions and guidance that ensure legal compliance
  • Contract and Policy drafting experience preferred
  • Excellent Communication and interpersonal skills -- Ability to interact and work with multiple stake holders, outside counsel/business owners, a union type environment and internal teams
  • Professional demeanor (ability to work with counsel and clients- internal and external)
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Excellent plain English legal writing skills
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Ability to identify and explain issues quickly and succinctly
  • Strong project management, analytical, writing and research skills
  • Ability to work in a deadline driven environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive information
  • Knowledge of ability to use legal research courses, including electronic research tools and internet searches

  • Position Title: Senior Legal Counsel, Transportation Services
  • Salary Range: $140,000-$200,000 USD

Benefits are based on employment status and may not be available for temporary or part-time employees



Salary ranges may vary based on location, market conditions, and other factors such as experience and qualifications. The final compensation will be determined during the hiring process based on these considerations.
