SUMMARY

The HSE Specialist for Corporate HSE Audits delivers audit services to 60+ sites worldwide to (1) evaluate compliance with all Federal, State, Corporate and Site HSE requirements; (2) Highlights conditions and behaviors that could potentially endanger people, assets and/or the environment and (3) identifies situations where the corporate brand reputation could be in jeopardy. She/he also develops and supports other audit Team members and HSE personnel to improve their knowledge on HSE disciplines.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develops and maintains a 6 Yr. Corporate HSE Audit Schedule with a 3 Yr. Audit Cycle.
  • Evaluates the proper staffing for scheduled HSE audits using a combination of corporate, site and contract sources.
  • Collaborates on the development of the corporate audit budget. Procures audit services as needed.
  • Efficiently performs as HSE Audit Leader and coaches HSE Auditors.
  • Assemble audit materials, construct, update and maintain audit protocols.
  • Coordinates audit team activities including logistics, document review, interviewing site personnel and verifying field practice.
  • Identify findings that target deficiencies in procedures, practices and activities that prevent the effective execution of the HSE Strategic Roadmap. Reviews and approve action plans intended to address the Findings.
  • Create reports of audit results and identify topics where Legal Team involvement is necessary.
  • Performs data tending and interpretation of the audit results; communicate those trends to the corporation as appropriate and incorporates learnings into future audits.
  • Maintain contact with recognized audit industry groups to network and identify best practices.
  • Ensures audit participants and team leaders are sufficiently trained.
  • Manage audit software applications.
  • Take on assigned projects from start to finish to achieve department and corporate goals.
  • Conduct/facilitate root cause analysis of incidents and support plants in development of corrective actions.
  • Interacts with Site leadership and HSE personnel to ensure Audit results are properly understood and agreed upon. Supports the sites to develop Actions to address findings root causes.
  • Communicates effectively up and down through the organization.
  • Create a positive work environment.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS Degree in Engineering or Safety.
  • 5+ years safety experience in a manufacturing or chemical environment.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to executives and non-technical personnel.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local HSE regulations, protocols, and/or procedures is a must.
  • Ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions
  • Skill in developing safety procedures and protocols
  • Ability to develop and deliver training effectively
  • Skill in using computers and knowledge with Microsoft Office Suites
  • Must be willing to travel 50% or more of the time.
  • Certified Auditor and/or familiarity with Canadian HSE standards and VPP are a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop and kneel. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and infrequently lift 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an office environment but will also be exposed to a plant environment including moving mechanical parts and extreme heat. The job requires climbing ladders and with appropriate PPE infrequently access to high noise and dust areas. Use of respirators may be required in some locations. Able to repeatedly lift 30 pounds. With the use of appropriate PPE the job requires to occasionally access areas where toxic, caustic or flammables may exist.
