The Electro Optical Seeker and Infrared Systems group (A1F) of the Air and Missile Defense Sector (AMDS) is seeking an experienced Software/Firmware Engineer to be part of our team. Your role would include architecting and implementing real-time missile test frameworks, and building accurate/sophisticated real-time modelling and simulation tools.

As a Software/Firmware Engineer you will...

  1. Be an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team focused on developing and maintaining real-time hardware-in-the-loop test systems
  2. Leverage and continue to grow your skills in real-time software development
  3. Develop and integrate software into hardware-based test systems designed to test cutting edge systems
  4. Provide inputs to management for system updates/upgrades needed to continue pushing the performance envelope of our test and assessment capability
  5. Develop project documentation describing the software systems developed

Qualifications

You'll meet our minimum requirements if:

  • You have a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or similar field.
  • At least 2+ years of professional experience.
  • You are proficient in C and modern C++, and have experience with modern software build tools.
  • You are knowledgeable in software optimization and real-time performance.
  • You are comfortable architecting object-oriented software to meet a set of requirements.
  • You are proficient in UML and able to fully document software designs.
  • You are familiar with image processing algorithms.
  • You are familiar with Linux operating systems.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a final Secret level clearance.. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go beyond our minimum requirements if:

  • You have an advanced degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or similar field and experience in modeling and simulation and five years of experience in your major.
  • You are experienced in CUDA, OpenCL, VHDL and/or Verilog.
  • You have experience with Linux at the kernel level, writing daemons & device drivers or interfacing with hardware from software
  • You have proven experience leading teams of software developers
  • You are familiar with real-time operating systems and/or RedHat Enterprise Linux
  • You have an active Top Secret and SCI clearance

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
