The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. We offer 21 undergraduate majors, including plant and animal sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, agriculture and food systems, landscape architecture, food and nutritional sciences, ecology and evolution, marine science and oceanography, environmental sciences and meteorology, human ecology, entomology, and environmental economics.
In addition to instruction in the classroom, field, and laboratory, our students have opportunities for experiential learning on and off campus, including a growing emphasis on international experiences through short- and long-term study abroad. Students also have access to a robust program of applied research and outreach hosted by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station laboratories, farms, business incubators, and marine stations throughout the state. |

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Business Manager
III for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. The Business Manager
III reports to the Associate Director of the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences and the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station for Finance. Working independently with minimal supervision within the broadly defined work objectives of the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences and the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station's mission, this position monitors the fiscal integrity of all assigned funding sources for the School and the Experiment Station. Additionally, this role is responsible for overseeing payroll, general ledger, and project sub-ledger reconciliations for assigned units. Part of this reconciliation involves reviewing and documenting variance analyses on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis for assigned units.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Oversees multiple departments across SEBS and NJAES, ensuring that all functions are performed accurately, thoroughly, and within relevant deadlines while complying with all applicable policies and processes.
- Encompasses budget and financial oversight, procurement, payroll management, grant administration, accounting, travel and expense reimbursement, and financial reporting.
- Communicates, adapts, implements, and enforces accounting and grant management policies and procedures.
- Serves as a conduit for information sharing across departments, advocating for and representing departmental interests, and guiding and assisting department administrators.
- Analyzes and reviews financial data, prepares financial statements and reports for both internal and external use, and resolves a wide range of problems with a comprehensive understanding of accounting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), applicable regulations, and University policies and procedures.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience fully demonstrating knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
- At least five years of relevant experience in a financial or accounting function, excellent communication skills, advanced computer literacy, and a customer service-oriented attitude.

- Ability to work independently and professionally with limited supervision while exercising sound accounting judgment is mandatory for this position.
- Ability to establish and maintain continually evolving relationships with various individuals while coordinating multiple activities and assisting departments with daily problems/questions.
- Must be able to analyze data, information, and objectives, formulate logical conclusions, and make sound decisions or recommendations.
- Demonstrated analytical skills that allow for interpretation of budgetary, financial, and related management information.
- Must be able to anticipate problems and address them proactively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft EXCEL, Word, and PowerPoint is required.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain continuously evolving relationships with various individuals while coordinating multiple activities and assisting departments with daily issues and questions.
- A high degree of professionalism and tact is required.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Familiarity with Rutgers software systems, including the Oracle Financial Management System, Tableau, HCM, ECRT reporting system, and RAPSS, is beneficial.
- Being knowledgeable in preparing grant budgets and utilizing RAPSS is particularly helpful.
- Experience in an academic environment is advantageous.
- Proficient at managing diverse tasks simultaneously.
- Possesses a pleasant work disposition, good communication skills, and a strong ability to follow through with all tasks.
