About the unit

PCU is a 30-bed unit divided into two wings. All beds are private and have telemetry capability. The unit admits patients aged 15 through end of life. PCU is the stroke designated unit for new stroke and post tPA patients. The unit also has a neurology and pulmonary focus. ACLS certification is required within 6 months of employment. ACLS certified nurse's care for overflow medical/surgical/traumatic conditions with low to mild probability for complications/instability and who require non-invasive assessment/interventions every two to eight hours, as well as hospice and end of life care.

Here, you will find a Level II trauma center that is a nationally recognized heart, vascular and pulmonary specialties along with other specialties like orthopedics, neurosurgery, and women's health.

Scope of work

Provides care to the patient according to the plan of care, unit routine and hospital policy under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Safe transport of patients via wheelchair or stretcher, dispatch services and appropriate documentation of services. Provides the services of an Observer for any patient on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require constant observation, either in person or via remote video monitoring, to maximize his/her safety. Performs general duties to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit. Documentation of care provided in the electronic medical record.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent, Required

  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), Required within 30 days of hire

  • Previous hospital or nursing home experience, Preferred

  • Current CNA certification, Preferred
