SUMMARY/OBJECTIVES

This position is responsible for, but not limited to, performing Quality Control audits for compliance, data integrity, fraud misrepresentation and determining defect trends. The objective is to test the effectiveness and efficiency of operations, compliance with applicable laws and regulations, policies, and procedures. The audits can identify trends and general problems in the origination activities of the company which are reported to management for appropriate corrective action.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform a Pre-Funding review, including re-underwriting of residential loan files selected for random, discretionary, target and/or various issues (trends) as assigned by Quality Control Manager
  • Document loan inaccuracies, exception ratings, deficiencies and missing items and provide findings to responsible parties to be remedied prior to closing
  • Comprehensive understanding of income documents, including tax returns, and the ability to recalculate income
  • Ensure all necessary documentation supports final loan decision and automated underwriting finding results (if applicable)
  • Assist in the preparation and communication of Pre-Funding and/or Post-Closing monthly reports as needed
  • Follow established protocol as indicated in SouthState Bank's Quality Control Plan
  • Ensure that the Bank's policies and procedures, code of conduct, and regulatory guidelines are strictly complied with
  • Help other employees by liaising with them through healthy and positive interactions
  • Continuously update skills by participating in professional training
  • Seek opportunities to improve skills through cross-training offered by the Bank
  • All other tasks, responsibilities, or duties, as assigned by management

COMPETENCIES

  • Strong communication skills characterized by excellent writing and speaking skills
  • Proficient with general office machines and programs to include Encompass LOS, Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and other software that might be utilized in the department
  • Ability to use the computer efficiently and the capacity to learn new software programs as they are rolled out by the Bank
  • Good English language skills to write and speak clearly, and effectively with coworkers
  • Well-organized, accurate, and attentive to detail
  • Able to work independently
  • Cooperative and willing to assist coworkers and third party vendors on a regular basis
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills and be able to function well under pressure
  • Keen eye for detail and follow instructions to the letter

Qualifications, Education, and Certification Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience: At least two years of underwriting experience
  • Certifications/Specific Knowledge:
    • Understanding of mortgage operations from origination through funding
    • Advanced understanding of TRID and Fair Lending laws and regulations
    • Ability to interpret automated underwriting finding results, determine if data input was accurate and if conditions were met
    • Ability to evaluate income documents, including tax returns, and re-calculate income
    • Thorough knowledge of mortgage operating policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS/CLASSES

Required annual compliance training.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to stand and/or sit for long periods of time. Must be able to effectively access and interpret information on computer screens, documents, reports, and identify customers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Telecommuting roles no matter if hybrid or 100% full time telecommuting must have a secure home office environment that is free from background noise and distractions. They must also have a reliable private internet connection that is not supplied by use of cellular data (hot spot). Cable or fiber connections are preferred. Requirements are subject to change, as new systems and technology is delivered.

TRAVEL

Travel may be required to come to meetings as needed.

In accordance with Colorado law: Colorado pay for this position is anticipated to be between $48,647.00 - $77,710.00 , actual offers to be determined based on applicant's skills, experience and education.
