Job Summary

Performance and computational analysis of electrophysiological recordings and optical imaging to investigate neuronal dynamics in the brain of behaving animals to investigate the stability of neuronal representations over time, and in response to perturbations.

Essential Job Duties
  • Address Complex Neuroscientific Challenges: Design and conduct experiments to investigate how the brain maintains stable behavioral outputs despite perturbations in neural activity. Analyze and interpret data to uncover previously unobserved phenomena, contributing to a deeper understanding of neural circuit stability.
  • Develop and Optimize Experimental Techniques): Design, test, and implement advanced experimental methodologies, including Neuropixels recordings and in vivo optical imaging. Identify and develop strategies to enhance data acquisition and processing efficiencies, ensuring high-quality and reliable results.
  • Innovate Experimental Systems: Create and refine novel experimental setups tailored to specific scientific inquiries. This includes developing perturbation systems, synchronizing multimodal data streams (e.g., neuronal activity with behavioral parameters), and fabricating custom electronic devices or tools to facilitate precise data collection.
  • Conduct Advanced Data Analysis and Computational Modeling: Perform sophisticated analyses of complex datasets. Collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams to interpret findings, and develop software tools, graphical interfaces, algorithms, and computational models that support and enhance research objectives.
  • Mentor and Train Research Personnel: Provide guidance and instruction to graduate students and, when applicable, other research or technical staff in specialized experimental and analytical techniques, fostering skill development and knowledge transfer within the research team.
  • Collaborate Across Disciplines: Engage with cross-disciplinary research groups to develop and test advanced data acquisition systems and experimental technologies. Contribute to the design, implementation, and refinement of engineering and experimental approaches that integrate perspectives from biology, engineering, and computational sciences.
  • Contribute to Research Funding and Dissemination: Partner with the Principal Investigator to initiate, draft, and submit research proposals. Conduct comprehensive literature reviews, co-author manuscripts, and present findings at scientific meetings and conferences, contributing to the broader scientific discourse.
Basic Qualifications
  • PhD in neuroscience with 8+years of relevant scientific research experience in neuroscience.
  • Thorough technical/scientific expertise.
  • Advanced research project experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Coding and data analysis in MATLAB, python.
  • Background in electrical engineering.
  • Experimental experience with behaving animals, including survival surgeries.
  • Experimental experience in optogenetics, imaging and E-phys.
Required Documents
  • Resume.
