General Summary of Position
Supports the daily operations of the MWHC Police by receiving, prioritizing and dispatching emergency and non emergency calls for police services, utilizes specialized computer software to enter, track and compile statistical reports including fire responses, performs duties as the patient property clerk in the absence of the Patient Property Coordinator and operates the hospital center Identification Badge office.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receives and processes all incoming emergency and non-emergency telephone calls for service via a multi-line telephone system.
  • Dispatches Police Officers to both priority and non priority assignments via the hospital radio communications system.
  • Monitors the Campus Wide Radio system and coordinates communications between MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital, Children's National Medical Center and Veteran's Administration Medical Center.
  • Responsible for periodic checks with officers using radio, telephone and video surveillance to ensure officer safety.
  • Enters data into the automated dispatch data base and tracks all calls for police services. Using database management tools, generates and submits logs and statistical reports as directed by the Director of Protective Services or his or her designee.
  • Collects Patients Property and enters information into the patient property system, secures and distributes patient property/valuables received from MedStar, the Emergency Room and various nursing units in the absence of the Patient Property Coordinator.
  • Coordinates additional resources from District of Columbia, State and Federal government agencies that include Law Enforcement, Fire and EMS capabilities.
  • Monitors the Elevator Emergency Phones and coordinates with hospital facilities department in cases of elevator entrapments.
  • Maintains and verifies non published parties upon request as directed.
  • Receives, processes and maintains logs on all lost and found property.
  • Issues Vendor Passes to Vendors conducting business at MWHC.
  • Operates the MWHC Identification Badge Office.
  • Monitors numerous security cameras within the facility as well as the Lenel alarm system, emergency call boxes, steno phones and exterior intercoms.
  • Delivers the Code Orange (Mass Casualty) Labor Pool Processing Center equipment to the pre designated areas
  • Provides briefs to Department supervisors, Watch Commander, Chief of Police and the Director on all daily police activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director, Chief of Police or Operations Commander.


  • Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • High School Diploma or GED required

    Experience

    • Less than 1 year (four to six months) of job-related experience required
    • General office experience, including typing required


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Excellent telephone/communication skills to deal with potentially stressful emergency situations
    • Ability to handle rapid multi-task situations

    This position has a hiring range of $18.33 - $31.61
