Development Chemist, Entry Level

PPG has an exciting opportunity for entry-level scientists who are interested in a career in product development. The Automotive Refinish business has an opening for a Development Chemist at our facility in Cleveland, OH. You will support the Color Platform Technical team and contribute to new product development of basecoat technologies (the color layer of automotive coatings). You will work in the laboratory under the supervision of an experienced chemist and contribute to experimental design, formulation, application, and performance testing of new Refinish technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop coatings formulations for basecoat technology.

• Practice the scientific method to resolve technical problems.

• Follow experimental procedures and create reliable data.

• Push technical projects forward with the guidance of an experienced chemist.

• Work as part of a global team to support new product launches.

• DoE, paint formulation, spray application, applications testing, data interpretation, documentation and communication of results.

• Perform laboratory experiments with a safety-first mindset.

• Participate in safety (6S) plan to improve lab safety.

• Provide recommendations that improve project goals.

• Build productive business relationships with suppliers, marketing, sales, customers and the broader PPG Technical community.

• Follow corporate policies and government regulations; comply with established standards on business conduct, environmental issues, EEO.

Qualifications

• BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or other STEM discipline is required.

• Work well in a collaborative/team environment.

• Undergraduate research experience, internship experience, co-op experience, or similar.

• 1 year of professional experience in a related technical discipline.

• Experience with coatings, paints, dispersions, emulsions, adhesives, polymer solutions, or sealants.

• Knowledge of color theory.
