About the Job

This is a temp/causal position with the NRRI
Compensation is $20/hr

About the Job:

The Environmental Science Assistant will work closely with research staff and provide hands-on field sample campaign and molecular biology laboratory support. Primary duties will involve environmental sample collection, water quality measurement, and molecular biological analysis.

Job Duties:

1. Water and sediment sample collection in lakes and wetlands
2. Field and in-lab water quality measurement
3. Extraction of genomic materials from environmental samples
4. Quantitative PCR analysis

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science or related fields
- Focus and attention to detail to carry out laboratory tasks on time and with good precision. - Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Effective oral and written communication in English.
- Work in BSL 2 Laboratory Physical strength for field sampling campaign (e.g., ability to lift ~50 Ib materials)

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in processing and analyzing environmental sediment samples for trace organic contaminants, including pesticides and flame retardants.
- Experience in environmental field sampling campaign
- Experience in environmental microbiology and molecular biology .
- Experience processing large analytical data sets in R.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $20.00 per hour
