Introduction

The Clerk of the Circuit Court is a constitutional officer, and the duties of this office are mandated by the Code of Virginia. The Clerk's Office provides multiple statutory and local services for residents, business professionals, legal professionals, judges, public safety officials, a variety of state and local government agencies, and the towns of Loudoun County. The Clerk of the Circuit Court serves as the recorder of deeds and probate judge, issues marriage licenses and is the official court administrator for all civil and criminal court cases. In this latter capacity, the Clerk creates and maintains all court files and records, prepares court orders and jury lists, contacts jurors and issues summons and court processes.


Job Summary

Loudoun County Government is seeking qualified applicants for a Senior Probate Specialist with the Clerk of the Circuit Court. The successful candidate will conduct legal research related to the Probate Division. They will manage the Clerk's website for Probate to make sure all materials and forms are current for staff and the public. The candidate will also correspond with the Commissioner of Accounts as directed by the Probate Manager, serve as probate judge on behalf of the clerk in all probate matters including, wills/estates, guardianships, conservatorships and testamentary trustees. The Senior Probate Specialist must be knowledgeable of over 200 statutes in the Code of Virginia related to fiduciary actions and will also conduct legal research to resolve probate issues using the Code of Virginia, Lamb's Virginia Probate Practice and related Attorney General opinions.

This position will also appoint and/or qualify Executors/Administrators, Testamentary Trustees for a decedent's estate, Conservators and Guardians of Incapacitated Adults and Guardians of Minors; manage content of the Probate website and; write, design and maintain informational pages in coordination with the Probate manager and IT Specialist. Other duties include, but are not limited to, respond to complex questions and assists attorneys with inquiries involving Probate matters; provide assistance to customers who are unfamiliar with Probate procedure and terminology by explaining various probate forms and bond requirements; book indexes, images and public access computers and; respond to telephone/e-mail inquires regarding probate information within two business days.

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and one (1) year of related work experience in a Circuit Court Office, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience with real estate and/or fiduciary experience preferred.
