Position Summary:
The Material Handling Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of material handling activities within the warehouse or production facility. This role ensures efficient movement, storage, and distribution of materials while maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards. The ideal candidate will lead a team of material handlers, coordinate with other departments, and implement best practices to optimize operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervision and Leadership:

  • Lead, train and mentor a team of material handlers, ensuring adherence to safety and operational procedures.
  • Coordinate the activities of material handlers, ensuring performance standards and productivity goals are met across multiple shifts.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to encourage professional growth.
  • Develop and maintain a team that is cross trained and able to flex across the entire plant to support production needs.
  • Develop and maintain KPIs to show performance and accuracy improvement.
  • Drive and measure timely execution of material handler task

Material Handling Operations:

  • Collaborate with other departments such as Production, Purchasing, and Shipping/Receiving to support material flow.
  • Ensure proper handling and transactional integrity of all material movement
  • Develop and enforce standardized processes across the plant.
  • Ensure team is following lot tracing processes and standards.
  • Oversee the use of tablets, handheld scanners barcoding systems and ERP software to track inventory and process orders.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory standards (OSHA, etc.).
  • Conduct regular safety audits and lead incident investigations when necessary.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, have sufficient knowledge of all equipment used by the department and any safety requirements during its operation.

Inventory Management:

  • Monitor and maintain accurate inventory levels and locations in coordination with inventory control team.
  • Oversee storage, inventory integrity, and distribution of materials.
  • Optimize warehouse layout for efficient space utilization and material flow.
  • Implement and monitor inventory management systems to minimize discrepancies.

Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Develop and implement Process Control Instructions (PCI) for material handling activities.

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

  • High school diploma or GED required,
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in material handling or warehouse operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse safety protocols, inventory systems, and material handling equipment.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Knowledge of inventory management systems and warehouse management software (e.g., JDE, SAP, WMS).
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot operational challenges and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Forklift certification is a plus.

Environment/Atmospheric Conditions:

The work environment conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. This position's job duties are performed generally in a shop or warehouse type environment. Team members in this position may be exposed to loud noises from operating machinery, cold temperatures, chemicals and vapors, and possibly injury associated with work involving manufactured parts, assembly and heavy machinery. The team member may also occasionally be required to work in an office environment with traditional office lighting and office furniture, as well as consistent and frequent noise, interruptions and other similar distractions.

Availability Requirements:

Due to the nature and scope of the essential functions of this position, the importance of personal interactions with coworkers and direct reports, and the availability of job-related tools, equipment and resources at work, performance of the essential functions requires regular, consistent availability, accessibility, and presence on-site and after-hours.

The required number of hours per week will vary depending on what is required to efficiently perform the job duties of this position. This position will require availability and accessibility to respond and address emergencies and critical situations outside normal business operating hours in the early morning, evenings and/or during weekends and holidays.
