Job Description

This position functions as the evening supervisor for the Journalism Library. The Journalism Library provides primary library support for the faculty, staff and students in the School of Journalism.

Key Job Duties:
Multimedia Management
- Inventory, management and maintenance of the journalism library's multimedia equipment and IT infrastructure in cooperation with Library Technical Services (LTS). Act as the primary troubleshooter when equipment and software issues occur.
- Help update and maintain software when requested by LTS.
- Work with patrons to troubleshoot equipment/technology/software problems. Refer technical problems to LTS.
- Identify library's changing equipment needs and make suggestions to Circulation Supervisor/librarian for new purchases based on patron inquiries.
- Keep equipment drawers, cabinets, cubbies tidy, organized with proper photos and signage of contents.

Patron Services
- Provide patron assistance for users, including answering patron/public questions about digital and physical materials including equipment, books, and library services, and forwarding questions to librarians as needed.
- Assist students, faculty, and visitors via phone, email and in person in locating books and locating materials in print and online sources.

Evening and Weekend Supervisor
- Supervise the circulation/reserve/multimedia desk.
- Clear the hold-shelf and make sure hold shelf has accurate holdings for patrons.
- Keep equipment organized, inventoried, charged, and in working order.
- Assist in the hiring, functional supervision and training of student workers in the use of FOLIO circulation system, multimedia equipment, online catalog, academic databases, shelving, and how to assist patrons with great customer service attitudes.

Close and Open the Library
- Open the library on Sundays. Opening duties include: taking turnstile gate count, cleaning tables and monitoring study room supplies.
- Close the library on a regular basis. Nightly closing duties include: cleaning all tables in the library, putting charged equipment away, filling printers with paper.
- Ensure the library is secure before leaving.

Other Duties
- Gather monthly statistics and add to public services database.
- Serve as primary reporter of any building issues/emergencies during the evening and weekend hours.
- Create monthly themed book displays to advertise our collection, increase awareness of library resources, and inspire research curiosity.
- Work on special projects as assigned by Library Specialist Sr., Head, Journalism Library, or Journalism Librarian.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.

Shift

This position typically works Mon-Thu 1pm-10pm; Sun 12pm-8pm. During intersession, this position works Mon-Fri 8am-5pm.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

- Moderate knowledge of various software, hardware and multimedia equipment.
- Have excellent customer service skills.
- Be highly self-motivated, dependable, responsible, and possess great teamwork, excellent problem solving and interpersonal skills.
- Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
- Should be able to work independently and demonstrate excellent decision-making skills.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $14.80 to $16.00 per hour

Grade: GGS-006
