What is the Opportunity?

A Senior Analyst or Junior Associate postion on the Leveraged Capital Markets desk to support the Bank Loan Syndication business. The Leveraged Capital Markets business operates on a single platform supporting HY, Instutitional Loan, and Syndicated Bank Loan distribution for RBC in the US. This role will be dedicated to the Syndicated Bank Loan effort but some familarity with all debt products used on the platform will be key to long term success in the group.

The Bank Loan Syndication business supports the following products across all rating categories and industries:

  • Revolving Credit Facilities for IG and non-IG issuers
  • TLA's for IG and non-IG Issuers
  • Bridge Loans to both public bonds and private placements
  • Project Finance Loans
  • Debt Advisory/bespoke debt solutions

What will you do?

  • Work closely with Investment Banking Coverage, Corporate Banking, Leveraged Finance, and Project Finance to lead loan transactions for leveraged buyouts, acquisition financings, recapitalizations, restructurings, refinancings and construction financings.
  • Contribute to the development of pitch materials for clients across a variety of sectors that present strategic and financing views, company analysis and financing terms
  • Monitor and develop an understanding of credit market themes relevant to RBC's corporate and financial sponsor clients and synthesize these for the benefit of a client or deal team
  • Participate on deal teams and support the execution of syndicated loan financings backing corporate M&A, LBOs, project financings, and general corporate purposes
  • Work directly with senior leveraged finance and industry bankers, syndication/capital markets, internal risk teams, corporate banking, liability management, ratings advisors and other areas of the bank on internal credit processes and external client servicing
  • Provide support in all aspects of the due diligence and underwriting process including (1) review of data-room documentation and third party materials, (2) evaluation of financial statements, historical trends and projections and (3) diligence meetings/calls with management and other subject matter experts
  • Support senior bankers in the negotiation of commitment terms, covenants, and relevant credit document provisions
  • Develop syndication strategies for pitch materials and for deal execution.
  • Analyze and maintain databases which track financing activity and other market intelligence
  • Proactively identify operational risks/ control deficiencies in the business
  • Review and comply with Firm Policies applicable to your business activities
  • Escalate operational risk loss events, control deficiencies and risks that you identify to your line manager and the relevant risk and control functions on a timely basis

What do you need to succeed?

  • BA or equivalent with emphasis in finance/accounting/economics; strong academic credentials
    • MBA, MA or MS or equivalent desired, but not required
  • At least 2 years of Syndicated Finance, Leveraged Finance, Corporate finance experience at an investment bank.
  • Ability to take initiative and function independently under pressure, balanced with strong teaming skills
  • Ability to drive multiple processes, which may each be in a different stage in the transaction cycle
  • Proficient with computer applications such as MS Outlook, Word, Excel and market data applications
  • Familiarity with credit agreements and other debt facility documentation
  • Prior lead left deal experience preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to effectively interact with internal and/or external constituents
  • Must maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct
  • Series 79 & 63 licensed

  • The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $125,000 - $175,000 depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate's experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs.This salary range does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; and paid time-off plan.
