Tax is a complex function that encompasses a wide range of areas, including income and operating taxes, planning, compliance, financial reporting, audit defense, business support, and transfer pricing. Our work involves engaging with numerous stakeholders and addressing tax issues at global, federal, state, and local levels. Our department focuses on several key factors, such as managing costs, mitigating risks, enhancing efficiency, and ensuring effectiveness in all our processes. We deal with past, present, and future tax issues with the goal of creating and preserving value for Hallmark. As part of the Finance team, we remain closely connected to the business and collaborate with other functions to provide relevant information and achieve common goals. Throughout our work, we always keep in mind the business needs, providing practical solutions and leveraging available resources. The role of the Tax Specialist is crucial in ensuring that our department operates smoothly and efficiently. They interact with every aspect of our processes, from mailings to processing filings, and support the tax team members in meeting deadlines and projects.

WHAT THIS ROLE ENTAILS AND HOW YOU'LL CONTRIBUTE

As a Tax Specialist, you will:



  • Handle mail processing and distribution and ensure that tax mail is opened and delivered timely and to the appropriate person and department. Handling tax mail is vital due to the volume and time-sensitive nature of the information.
  • Input and output information, make and distribute copies, and maintain both paper and digital files for the department. In addition, keeping a planning book up to date to make sure that deadlines are met timely, as well keeping on track with various responsibilities by prioritizing and staying organized.
  • Process filings and correspondence to ensure they are complete and ready for delivery, primarily to tax authorities. This entails compiling data to ensure accuracy for tax review by analysts or managers.
  • Complete all activities related to filing, reporting, or paying taxes, as well as furnishing information requested by tax authorities. This includes compiling data, filing simple returns and forms, making tax payments, obtaining necessary approvals, and maintaining logs and records.
  • Execute projects outside our daily activities to support team with tax savings or other related initiatives.



BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

The following is required to be considered for this role:



  • Associate's degree OR at least 2 years' experience in administrative support or related experience with a high school diploma
  • At least 2 years of administrative experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work independently and to collaborate
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, oral and written
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Flexible team player, willing to adapt to changes and with an aptitude for learning new software and tax skills
