The Sr Safety Management Program Consultant oversees Safety Management Systems (SMS) and Continuing Analysis and Surveillance (CASS) for Technical Operations by providing safety guidance management for risk management, safety assurance, and system assessments at a high level. This role will collaborate with various partners to ensure alignment with SMS requirements and timelines, support the development and execution of SMS initiatives, and offer ongoing support to help teams navigate the SMS process effectively. Responsibilities
- Champion SMS/CASS initiated project management across Tech Ops and Cross departmental as appropriate
- Demonstrate and maintain subject matter expertise in key operational processes including Safety Management Systems, Safety Assurance, Safety Risk Management, CASS, and Project Management
- Lead and directs Process Owners with required recordkeeping as prescribed by 14 CFR 5.97
- Lead and directs Process Owners with requesting approvals of SMS outputs to include risk acceptance of identified hazards and associated mitigating actions.
- Present SMS outputs at the monthly Safety Review Board which includes senior Leaders and regulatory representatives
- Ability to facilitate SMS training to all levels of the organization and present technical information and/or materials
- Work closely and effectively with team members and other departments
- May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to visualize, articulate, and condense complex issues into concise, easily understood updates and/or presentations
- Advanced analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
- Understanding of the aviation industry and FAA regulations, including 14 Code of Regulations, Airworthiness Directive, Safety Management System, Safety Risk Management, and Maintenance Procedural Manual
- Knowledge of Continuous Process Improvement methodologies
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
- Ability to initiate tasks, perform duties, and respond to inquiries without direction or supervision
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously with frequent interruptions and time constraints
- Ability to establish credibility and rapport and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
- Ability to engage in crucial conversations when delivery or receipt of the message content is difficult and challenging
- Ability to manage up and exercise influence where there is no formal authority
- Expert ability to synthesize recommendations and understand their impact on business
- Ability to negotiate and mediate situations to a constructive conclusion
- Proficient in spreadsheet, database, process workflow, and presentation software (Microsoft Office, e.g.)
Education
- Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
- Preferred: Prior aviation maintenance and CASS experience
- Preferred: Airframe & Powerplant license
- Expert level experience, expansive and far reaching knowledge in:
- Working in the airline industry across multiple Operations Departments and/or business processes (Technical Operations, Flight Operations, Ground Operations, Inflight)
- Project/Program Management
- Safety Management System (SMS)
Licensing/Certification
- Must be able to obtain a SIDA (Secured Identification Display Area) badge and meet all local airport requirements
Physical Abilities
- Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
- Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
- Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
- Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
- Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
- Must be able to travel with some overnights stays
Pay & Benefits: Competitive market salary from $116,350 per year to $129,300 per year* depending on qualifications and experience, with opportunity for future pay increases based on performance and market movement.
