Position Overview
Essential Job Duties |
We are looking to hire one researcher with a background in bioinformatics of genomic data, and/or statistical genetics. Strong skills in scripting and command line coding are necessary, are excellent written and verbal communication. Researchers with experience in polyploid or other non-model organisms are especially encouraged to apply.
The successful researcher will collaborate with
USDA-
ARS breeding programs to develop genomic resources and genotyping platforms for use in genomics-based breeding strategies.
- Assist in the identification of simplex markers to track interspecific recombination.
- Contribute to the analysis and optimization of genotyping platforms tailored for rapid cycling of early-generation breeding and pre-breeding material.
- Support the development of computational tools and pipelines for managing polyploid genomic data and integrating it into breeding workflows.

Department Required Skills |
- Ph.D. in Biology, Bioinformatics, Quantitative Genetics, Molecular Breeding, Plant or Animal Genetics, Molecular Biology, or related field awarded in the last five years
- Background in bioinformatics of genomic and molecular data, and/or statistical genetics.
- Must have experience in genome assembly, linkage mapping, genomic variant calling and validation, and ad-hoc bioinformatics.
- Must be proficient with R and/or Python and Linux/Unix systems.

- Strong skills in computer scripting and pipeline development.
- Experience working in high-performance computing environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail are beneficial.
