DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Western Area Supervisor is responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of the PA State Fire Academy's training and instructor credentialing within the western region of the Commonwealth. This position serves as a liaison between the Academy and training partners within the region. Key responsibilities include: Provide guidance and support to instructors to maintain instructional excellence and compliance with PSFA and national standards. Representing PSFA at regional meetings, conferences, and partner events. Assisting in the development and improvement of curriculum and instructional methods. Conducts new instructor reviews, integrating and continued oversight of instructor performance and evaluations. Receives and process Line of Duty Death notifications. Promotes instructor and PSFA initiatives. A full list of expectations are included in the detailed position description. This position requires strong leadership, excellent organizational & communication skills, and a deep understanding of fire service operations and education. Frequent travel is required within the Commonwealth.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 37.5-hour work week
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
- This is a home headquartered position which will require you to be headquartered at your home and travel to worksites to complete your work duties. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.
- Travel will be required throughout the Western Region, which includes Fayette, Greene, Clearfield, Fulton, McKean, Elk, Indiana, Armstrong, Centre, Somerset, Juniata, Snyder, Jefferson, Warren, Erie, Butler, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, Crawford, Clarion, Forest, Beaver, Washington, Cambria, Cameron, Allegheny, Westmoreland, Bedford, Blair, Mifflin, and Huntingdon Counties.
- In the event of an emergency/disaster situation or training exercise, this position may be required to travel, work up to 12-hour shifts, and work outside of the normal work hours, including weekends and overnights.
- Free on-site parking is available.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $59,345.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- 400 hours of experience providing instruction as a Fire Academy Instructor(Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- One year of professional experience in developing and delivering fire and emergency service training programs, and a bachelor's degree in fire science, public safety, adult education, or a related field; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
- All position requires Fire Service Instructor 2 certification issued by a professional certification agency accredited in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association, the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress, or other professional certification agency accredited in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association.
Other Requirements:
- This particular position also requires you to possess a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.

- You must reside in or be willing to relocate the Western Region (which includes Fayette, Greene, Clearfield, Fulton, McKean, Elk, Indiana, Armstrong, Centre, Somerset, Juniata, Snyder, Jefferson, Warren, Erie, Butler, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, Crawford, Clarion, Forest, Beaver, Washington, Cambria, Cameron, Allegheny, Westmoreland, Bedford, Blair, Mifflin, and Huntingdon Counties) by the time of hire.
