We have a great opportunity for a Distribution Technician! This role is under the direction of the Supervisor and is responsible performing all tasks related of those jobs necessary, but not limited to the installation, maintenance repair, relocation, retirement, testing and operation of water distribution system and related structures, grounds and appurtenances. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Operation and routine maintenance of all equipment and vehicles including trucks; pumps; pavement and rock breakers; tampers; compressors; tapping and rodding machines; boring and pushing equipment; and such other equipment as the Company may have or acquire.
- Installation, maintenance and repair of pipe and service lines and related valves, fittings and appurtenances.
- Installation of meters, meter housings, and the repair and maintenance of meter housings with such help as the task at hand requires.
- Grounds keeping over mains, services and other areas.
- Proper use of various tools, instruments, and equipment (i.e. backhoe) associated with the work.
- Makes measurements and surveys as required for proper record keeping.
- Performs and recording inspections and test of system and appurtenances.
- Load and unload various equipment and supplies at work site or storage areas.
- Performing the duties listed above in a safe manner following OSHA, IDOL, USDOT, Company and any other applicable safety related rules and regulations.
- Be available for reasonable overtime work and be available for emergency call-out duty when necessary to provide service to the public.
- Other duties as assigned to provide to customers and/or forward the goals and objectives of the organization.
SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL OR REGISTRATION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
- Have legible handwriting, basic mathematical and communication skills.
- Be trustworthy, conscientious and have the proper regard for the use of time and equipment, and an awareness of the responsibility to safeguard the water supply and prevent pollution of area surface water.
- Have a personality that allows full cooperation, communication with and assistance to other employees and the public.
- Be able to readily read, understand and accurately follow operating instructions as given by supervisors.
- Be neat, reliable, resourceful, have a retentive memory and be able to think and act promptly. Be able to discern between the relative importance of assigned duties. Be able to send and receive instructions by radio and telephone. Wear proper clothing as required by the Company. Have the capacity and desire for advancement.
- A team player able to work effectively in a team fostered multi-tasking environment.
Licensing Requirements:
- Candidate must possess a valid U.S. driver's license.
- Class A CDL license preferred upon hire, must obtain one (1) year of the date of hire for new employees or within 6 months of transference into this position for current employees to remain in the employ of Aqua Illinois.
- Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Class "D" Water Operators Certification preferred upon hire, must obtain within one (1) year of the date of hire for new employees or within 6 months of transference into this position for current employees to remain in the employ of Aqua Illinois.
- Have the technical, academic and physical ability including lifting 50lbs. to perform the duties of this classification.
- Working conditions include travel to work sites of Essential Utilities and/or other constituents (if applicable).
- Reside within 45 minutes of the office.
