About the Position

The Maintenance Specialist performs a variety of semi-skilled repair and trades tasks related to facilities maintenance, modification services, breaking down, and reinstallation of office furnishings. This position will also coordinate other services requested by department staff through the Facilities office.

The ideal candidate will be skilled in effective verbal and written communication and problem-solving and must be detail-oriented. The candidate will also identify barriers and resources to achieving individual and team goals, engage stakeholders in decisions and actions, and demonstrate a basic understanding of the budget process.

We Require

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Two years of experience performing semi-skilled trade tasks

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire

We Also Value

  • Previous facilities experience working for a government or public agency

  • Experience reading and interpreting building schematics, blueprints, and/or construction drawings

Job Contributions

  • Receive and respond to service requests via the online Facility Request system within the established metrics and processes. Prepare and maintain various reports and records

  • Perform semi-skilled repair tasks, utilize a golf cart to travel to and from work sites, use power tools and other equipment to complete maintenance work, and perform trades tasks.

  • Perform minor building maintenance duties, including troubleshooting plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, lighting, and heating issues, installation of cubicle panels, and shelving units

  • Provide on-site representation for projects and related activities, including quality assurance and safety. Provide access to vendors/contractors as needed for all nine MCDOT buildings, including outlying facilities

  • Responsible for the set-up and breakdown of conference rooms as needed

  • Adhere to safety standards and follow instructions to complete work assignments with minimum supervision for all nine MCDOT buildings, including outlying facilities. Perform monthly facility inspections for all nine MCDOT buildings, including outlying facilities

  • Schedule, manage, and review work assignments and set daily objectives for work based on established priorities and time frames, ensuring the effective use of time to accomplish work-related goals

  • Recognize, plan for, and request equipment and/or materials that are needed to perform the job. Utilize, operate, and troubleshoot applicable tools and equipment related to the area of assignment; adhere to procurement guidelines as applicable

  • Reconfigure and install modular offices and space to accommodate user needs; move furniture as required

  • Perform other duties as assigned or required

Working Conditions

  • Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantly

  • Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration

  • Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel

  • The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties and responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noises, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. The position is subject to atmospheric conditions: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation

Machines, tools, equipment, software, and hardware

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook and Excel

Protective equipment required

  • Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for the job (i.e., safety shoes)
