THE POSITION

At the Wayne County Human Services Dietary Department, we provide hot or frozen meals each day to older adults who are temporarily or permanently confined to their homes and satellite senior centers. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Meal Transporter, you will deliver meals to the elderly in your community. Your responsibilities would include completing log sheets and following sanitation and safety guidelines when handling meals (meals could weigh up to 50 pounds). You will also ensure hot or frozen food items are kept in compliance with sanitation and safety requirements. In this position, you will deliver food and meals using a vehicle (average 150 miles per day) and move hot, bulk, or frozen meals from loading dock. You can expect to transport meals and surplus or pantry food. This role will require you to be a personable and good communicator, as well as enjoy engaging with others. Additionally, you will remain in contact with the senior center clerk to provide updates, concerns, and pertinent consumer information.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Part-time on-call employment, 12 to 18 hours per week
  • Work day will conclude when all meals for the day are delivered.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months of experience which required operation of a motor vehicle as a regular duty; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • You must have possession of a valid Pennsylvania's driver's license.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Your driver's license must not have been suspended within the last three years.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
