Contribute to webinars, content development, media coordination, and strategic campaigns to promote public health awareness. Communication Specialist IV Responsibilities Include:
- Design and develop communication and education products for DEHSP's environmental health topics.
- Serve as the point of contact (POC) for producing webinars educating the public health community on environmental health topics.
- Draft written responses to inquiries about DEHSP topics from governmental and non-governmental organizations and the general public.
- Develop text and graphic content for various communications products (e.g., fact sheets, program briefings, infographics, media talking points) about DEHSP and environmental health for review by senior communication staff.
- Track, coordinate, and quantify DEHSP media responses.
- Maintain collaboration and manage relationships with other parts of CDC that share media and web content with DEHSP.
- Conduct monthly social media meetings with social media contacts within DEHSP branches and center.
- Participate in agency-wide internal content workgroups on topics related to DEHSP work.
- Perform duties as part of NCEH support to CDC's Joint Information Center as a member or leader of the Content, Media, or Social Media Desk during emergencies requiring DEHSP participation (natural or manmade disasters).
- Contribute to the production of information products such as brochures, videos, media, and legislative analysis. Maintain contact lists.
- Conduct targeted information campaigns, arrange press briefings and interviews, coordinate editorial boards, monitor the news, and provide trend analysis.
- Meet with clients to relay progress, propose creative solutions to communication challenges, and establish priorities.
- Provide consultation services to CDC staff by developing and implementing strategic approaches to targeted information campaigns and improving work processes, products, and services.
- Build a capable team to provide a range of support services, including media and legislative relations, news monitoring, evaluation, and trends analysis.
- Perform other job-related duties as required.
Communication Specialist IV Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
- Bachelor's degree, Master's preferred, in Communications, English, or Policy, and 6+ years of related experience.
- Previous CDC and/or public health experience is highly desirable.
- Experience in writing, reviewing, and editing health communication and technical documentation materials.
- Coordinating, facilitating, and producing webinars.
- Strong proofreading skills and attention to detail.
- Writing in plain language.
- Developing content for social media.
- Developing press kits and coordinating with news outlets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Attention to detail.
