Overview
The USU Career Design Center seeks an Associate Director of Career Design & Integration. The Associate Director leads the integration of career education and professional development into the fabric of the institution. The Associate Director will drive a university-wide strategy to embed career education into the curriculum, empower faculty and staff to engage students in career design, and scale innovative, data-informed solutions that prepare students for meaningful careers.

The Associate Director of Career Design & Integration reports to the Executive Director of the Career Design Center. The Associate Director directly supervises 3 Career Design Specialists.

Review of applications will begin August 25 and continue until the position is filled.

This position is eligible for hybrid work within the state of Utah

Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Integration - 25%:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to embed career design across the student lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with academic colleges to design scalable, discipline-specific career readiness initiatives.
  • Make data-informed decisions to align programming with student interests and industry trends.

Team Leadership & Supervision - 15%:
  • Supervise and mentor 3 Career Design Specialists, providing guidance on student advising, faculty outreach, teaching, and programming.
  • Set performance goals, conduct evaluations, and support professional development for 3 Career Design Specialists.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to align team efforts with departmental strategy.

Course Management - 10%:
  • Oversee the management of the Career Design Center's suite of career courses.
  • Regularly update course content and offerings to ensure courses remain relevant based on student needs and industry trends.
  • Hire, train, and oversee instructors for all courses.

Program Development & Campus Engagement - 40%:
  • Collaborate with deans, associate deans, department heads, and other administrators to integrate career design into the academic experience for all undergraduate students.
  • Expand and support the Career Design Champions Program, equipping faculty and staff to embed career learning outcomes and career readiness into their work.
  • Guide the Career Design Fellows Steering Committee and the Career Learning Outcomes Working Group.
  • Develop asynchronous, tech-enabled career design resources, including online modules and tools.
  • Design targeted interventions based on student population needs and career readiness data.
  • Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of career integration efforts using qualitative and quantitative metrics.

Administration - 10%:
  • Assist the Executive Director with the creation and management of departmental budgets.
  • Serve as an active University citizen by serving on committees, volunteering, etc.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Career Development, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in career services, academic affairs, or related areas.
  • Demonstrated experience in program development, planning, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Demonstrated experience with curriculum design.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience using data to inform decision-making.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience supervising professional staff.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a large, decentralized university environment.
  • Familiarity with career readiness frameworks (e.g., NACE Career Readiness Competencies).
  • Proficiency with learning management systems such as Canvas or similar.
  • Certification in CliftonStrengths.
  • Project management experience.
