Department OverviewOur cross-functional Experience Design and Research team consists of Industrial Design, UI/UX, Design Research, and Human Factors practitioners who design for diverse and challenging markets. Each of these core capabilities contributes within a user-centered design process to leverage our advanced wireless communications, cloud & mobile applications, video, analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to envision a new generation of life-changing - and life-saving - products, applications and services. Our world is changing faster than ever with increasing ambiguity, and speed. We know the value of good research and design in helping our users adapt to these changing conditions, making them safer and more efficient than ever. Our primary customer base includes Public Safety, Enterprise, and Business, with products including portable and mobile communication and data devices. As a Senior UX Researcher, you will be part of a community of researchers and designers tasked with overcoming complicated user challenges, transforming them into meaningful and critical experiences. You should already have a strong foundation in qualitative and quantitative research methods and a demonstrated ability to observe users and evaluate system performance across a range of roles, tasks and environmental conditions. You will work with a small, distributed and highly collaborative team to investigate user needs, behavior and workflows, and use research insights to help envision new design solutions that demonstrate sound design practices.

Scope of responsibilities:

  • Create test materials and rigorous test plans for the measurement of individual and team performance across a variety of public safety and commercial products and applications.

  • Develop user profiles & personas, workflows & scenarios and documentation of best practices to accommodate human physical, cognitive and social constraints within appropriate environmental, cultural and organizational contexts.

  • Be able to lead the research project and research readout sessions

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of design concepts, providing guidance on core UI/UX considerations.

  • Effectively communicate research insights through a variety of methods, from rich narrative through measurable design requirements and specifications describing user interfaces and internal structures for products.

Desired Skills/Experience:
  • Demonstrated experience planning and executing short- and long-term research projects addressing complex user problems.

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, including techniques to present research findings, and communication and persuasion through rich user stories.

  • Evaluating Experiences with AI-Powered Features: Developing methods to assess the usability, utility, and ethical implications of AI in user-facing applications.

  • Generative Research Synthesis with AI: Using AI to assist in synthesizing large volumes of research data to uncover deep insights and opportunities for AI application.

  • Predictive Behavior Analysis: Understanding and interpreting AI-driven predictions about user behavior to inform proactive CX strategies.

Soft Skills:
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, demonstrating strong empathy and a passion for understanding user needs.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively and work with the full range of user experience design professions as well as product management and software development.

  • A rich appreciation for culture and end user work practices should complement your strong knowledge base in research and design.

  • Innate ability to understand complex systems, problems and workflows and ability to see the big picture.

Technical Skills:
  • Experience with prototyping tools such as Axure, Figma, InVision or Omniture, as well as editing and animation tools such as Animate, Premier, or After Effects are a plus.

Target Base Salary Range:$63,800 USD - $127,600 USD

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.

Note: Candidate must be in the Chicago office 1-2 days per week.
