ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

UC San Diego is hiring temporary Retail Lead Food Service Workers to support the campus dining restaurants and retail markets.

Duration: This role is temporary and is anticipated to last 5.5 - 6 months

Compensation: $25.00/hour. Eligible for Mid-Level Benefits including medical plans, paid holidays, and vacation/sick leave.

Work Schedule: Variable

Location: 100% on-site on campus in La Jolla.

DESCRIPTION

Acts as a working team leader in a retail operation with responsibilities to include:

  • Merchandizing, stocking, barista, customer service, food production, on-the-job training and quality control in a front of the house environment.
  • Problem-solving in a timely manner
  • Food production
  • Customer service and complaints
  • Data entry and use of Outlook for email and scheduling
  • Placing orders online and by phone
  • Handling staff shortages, equipment and personnel.
  • Will follow established procedures in the absence of the supervisor.
  • In coordination with their supervisor, will be responsible for food production, customer service, controlling labor hours and merchandising.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with on-the-job training of staff on any or all of the following: barista, food production, customer service, serving techniques, portion control, sanitation and safety, operations, and merchandising of product.

  • Ability to delegate tasks and give-day to day support for the following: serving prepared food, special events, customer service, deliveries, sanitation, cleanliness, and safety.

  • Ability to support in the absence of an immediate supervisor, solves problems in any or all of the following areas: staff shortages, product and equipment failures, customer service issues.

  • Ability to safely operate and maintain food service equipment such as mixers, food processors, slicers, blenders, impingers, gas range, flat top grill, char broiler, hot wells, deep fat fryers, rotisseries, Rheon machines, woks, saute pans, steamers, and kettles.

  • Ability to measure dry and liquid food Items in units of measurement such as cup, pint, quart, pound, and ounce to properly adhere to recipe and production requirements.

  • Skills in and knowledge of related food service functions such as safety and sanitation, production methods, and equipment maintenance.

  • Ability to follow detailed verbal and written instructions with little supervision.

  • Skills in time management and in prioritizing workload to meet daily production schedule and deadlines.

  • Ability to read, write, perform basic arithmetic calculations, and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with customers, students, staff, faculty and guests.

  • Ability to accurately complete and maintain paperwork, including temperature logs and production records.

  • Must be able to comply with all food handler procedures required by federal and state laws and department requirements.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Job offer is contingent on clear Background Check.

  • Operating needs of the department require varied work schedules, (i.e., a.m., p.m., and/or weekend shifts and/or 10-hour workday). Employees may be required to change work location on a daily basis as needed or for an indefinite time period.

  • Health codes require prescribed uniform, hair covering, and good personal hygiene. Meal schedules require extreme attention to promptness and excellent attendance.

This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18. It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $45,665 - $54,455 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $21.87 - $26.08

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
