The Facilities Director at the School of Veterinary Medicine has the overall responsibility for assuring the safe and operational physical environment that allows the school's faculty, staff, and students to conduct instruction, research, and clinical service. The director oversees building remodeling projects, maintenance, property inventory management, building administrative functions, safety, building access and building security.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Develops and audits the unit budget
  • Directs the planning and scheduling of building maintenance and remodeling activities, incorporating operational requirements and priorities
  • Reviews work place health and safety expectations with employees and provides instruction as needed

Manage deliveries and mail.

  • Determines and directs standards for routine and preventative work orders, warehouse/purchasing tracking, building and grounds projects, and use of automated maintenance

Manages building access and oversees building security system.

  • Develops priorities and implementation strategies for creating custodial and maintenance standards, schedules, and labor requirements for routine and emergency repairs, housekeeping, preventative maintenance programs, grounds work, warehouse functions, renovations, and capital improvement projects
  • Develops and fosters a working relationship with university and state professional architects and engineers, project managers, building construction superintendents, and outside contractors while representing staff and residents
  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees

Serves as property manager for the SVM and has oversight and responsibility of occupant emergency plans.

Department: School of Veterinary Medicine. This position will report to the Associate Dean of Advancement and Administration in the Deans Office. Compensation: Minimum $110,197 Required Qualifications: 3 years experience independently managing complex facilities.

Demonstrated strong communication skills

Preferred Qualifications: Experience managing facilities for biomedical or biological research program.

Comprehensive knowledge of University of Wisconsin facility services and building operations.
