The Department of Medicine, Division of Geriatrics, offers a unique opportunity for a Bilingual Research Coordinator. Dr. Mora Pinzon's research program seeks to improve access to healthcare services for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, with an emphasis on Hispanic/Latino communities. The qualified candidate will be responsible for all tasks related to study coordination including, but not limited to: recruitment, scheduling, and screening research subjects, performing data collection (e.g. interviews, focus groups, surveys), and assist in the data analysis and publication of results. A successful Research Coordinator will establish regular communication with enrolled subjects in order to maintain study schedules and appointments and ensure that all research protocols and regulatory requirements are followed. The candidate will work closely with subjects from underrepresented communities, and have the opportunity to get involved with various community outreach and engagement events. The position requires a detailed-oriented individual with good organizational and problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and preferably experience working in research settings related to Alzheimer's disease or dementia.


  • This position is full- or part-time, 80% - 100% FTE.

  • The work schedule is flexible and will be determined at the time of hire.

  • This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

  • This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.

  • Must provide a valid driver's license. Employees may use their own transportation or receive approval for University Car Fleet usage. Employment is conditional pending the results of a Pre-hire Driver Authorization Check.   • Fluency in oral and written Spanish language is required.


Key Job Responsibilities:
  • May assist with training of staff
  • Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities and assists with publications
  • Manages research workflow components, collects, prepares, processes, and submits participant data and samples to appropriate entities, adhering to research protocols
  • Identifies work unit resources needs and manages supply and equipment inventory levels
  • Serves as a main point of contact for clinical research participants, providing information regarding research procedures, expectations, and informational inquiries. Ensures participants follow the research protocol and alerts Principal Investigator of issues
  • Performs quality checks
  • Schedules logistics, determines workflows, and secures resources for clinical research trials
  • Identifies resource needs and develops clinical research documents, such as job aids, tools, processes, procedures, and training. Contributes to the development of protocols
  • Recruits, screens, selects, determines eligibility and enrolls trial participants, collects more complex information, performs medical assessments, and answers varied questions under supervision of a medically licensed professional. Performs medical assessments after completion of required training/certification, such as collecting vital signs, obtaining weight, and performing phlebotomy
  • Assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding

Compensation:

The starting salary for the position is $50,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Fluency in oral and written Spanish language

  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in research settings performing outreach and recruitment activities, screening of participants, obtaining informed consent and performing data collection for clinical studies.

  • Experience utilizing databases (e.g. Qualtrics, RedCap) to perform tasks such as entering and retrieving data, using Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Power Point, Outlook, Excel) and using virtual meeting platforms (e.g, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative research studies

  • Experience working with Latino communities or Latino older adults

  • Experience in working in the field of Alzheimer's Disease or Dementias


Education:

Bachelor's degree preferred; focus in Public Health, Social Work, Sociology, Health Promotion, Neuroscience, Biology or related field, preferred.
