Job Summary:

Northwestern's Department of Anthropology seeks a half-time administrative professional to support our program. The Program Assistant 2 coordinates all undergraduate and graduate courses under the Anthropology umbrella. This involves class scheduling, room assignments, course descriptions, catalog and website upkeep. liaising as needed with the Weinberg Office of Undergraduate Studies, the Office of the Registrar and the School of Professional Studies.

The position assists our Director of Undergraduate studies in guiding undergraduate students through our program and works with the Associate Chair on course matters. The position also serves as the department receptionist and may be called upon to assist with department events. Performs other duties as assigned.

This is a half-time position, 20 hours per week, largely on site. Five half-days (4 hours each) are preferred, but two full days (8 hours each) and one-half day (4 hours) may be considered. The target hiring range for this position will be between $20 and $25 per hour, $20,880 - $26,100 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Course Coordination: Coordinates all undergraduate and graduate courses under the Anthropology umbrella. This involves class scheduling and room assignments in consultation with the Associate Chair and in compliance with the Registrar's requirements, as well as work with other departments and programs for cross-listing of courses. Additionally, this position collects and enters course descriptions, keeps up the catalog and website, administers creation of new courses, and liaises with the Weinberg Office of Undergraduate Studies, the Office of the Registrar and the School of Professional Studies as needed.
  • Administration: May assist the Anthropology Department's Director of Undergraduate Studies with student records for majors and minors.
  • Reception: Serves as the Department Receptionist, fielding inquiries and directing them as needed.
  • Events: May be called upon to schedule catering for department events. In some cases, may work with other faculty and staff on communications with guest speakers.

Miscellaneous

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent along with 2 years of administrative support experience is required.

Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)

  • Intermediate knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, email, and database software programs is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least one year of experience in university setting.
  • Knowledge of Northwestern's Student Enterprise System and CLSS or experience with other enterprise systems.
  • Experience with scheduling.
