Job Summary:
The Assistant Director of the Black Arts Consortium provides leadership, expertise, and direction on the creative and business management of the Black Arts Consortium (BAC) at Northwestern University. Duties include strategic planning, scheduling, budgeting, event management, and supervision of graduate and undergraduate students. Reporting to and working in partnership with the Director of the Black Arts Consortium, the Assistant Director ensures the effective, compliant, and efficient daily management of all operational, financial, and business functions in support of the BAC's mission. The Assistant Director also serves as a member of the External Affairs team at the School of Communication and will coordinate with academic departments, units and University offices as needed.
Please note: Occasional out of state travel and evening/weekend work may be required.
Specific Responsibilities:
Administrative Oversight and Planning:
- In partnership with the BAC Director and BAC advisory board, sets the annual creative and strategic goals and programming for the BAC.
- Oversees documentation of agreements between Northwestern University and partner organizations, ensuring that agreements are completed, appropriately reviewed, approved, and adhered to by all parties.
- Oversees accurate, efficient and compliant workflow of all transactional processes across areas/units.
- Creates and oversees finances, budget, associated analysis and reports.
- Reviews exceptions forms and reimbursements that require special attention.
- Develops fees, charges, recharge rates, etc. for services.
- Approves funds reallocation within budget as necessary and appropriate.
Communication, Outreach, and Recruitment:
- Oversees marketing of new and current programs, working with partner institutions and media to ensure marketing plans effectively target audiences, stakeholders, sponsors, etc.
- Ensures that all advertising and marketing materials accurately represent programs.
Event Planning:
- Manages programming, educational, student, alumni, workshops, meetings, etc. including speakers, agendas, etc.
- Manages planning and arrangement of meetings, workshops, events, etc. designed to exchange information, promote research objectives, and to build internal and external relationships within the University.
- Manages event details including communication, venues, presenters, travel arrangements, materials, refreshments and technology are arranged and completed in an appropriate and timely manner.
Grants and Contracts:
- Partners with professional research administration support staff to facilitate and enhance all administrative grant processes and related compliance.
Human Resources:
- Supervises 1-2 staff and manages recruitment, selection, performance review plans.
Program Development:
- Coordinates with program/project sponsors on the delivery of all onsite instruction and provision of logistical support.
- Oversee development and implementation of new program/project initiatives.
- Manages relationships with partners, foundations, etc. and coordinates logistical support
- Continually assesses and innovates program/project to achieve educational goals.
- Develops strategy for program/project growth and expansion.
Miscellaneous
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree is the minimum requirement.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree or equivalent
- A degree in an arts-related field
- Graphic design skills
Target hiring range for this position will be between $56,782-$70,978 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data
