The Position

East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) invites qualified candidates to apply for two immediate part-time openings in the Public Affairs Office.

Under general supervision, the Outreach and Education Specialist supports the East Bay Municipal Utility District's (EBMUD) educational outreach initiatives by leading field trips, facilitating classroom presentations, and engaging the public at community events.

The position promotes environmental stewardship, water conservation, and awareness of EBMUD's water and wastewater systems. Incumbents provide direct education to students, educators, and the general public to inspire understanding and appreciation of EBMUD's mission and services. Employees in this class work independently and collaboratively with senior outreach staff and are primarily responsible for delivering educational content to youth and community audiences. This part-time classification differs from the full-time Community Affairs Representative I and Public Affairs Specialist classes in that the Outreach and Education Specialist role is designed to provide primary field support of offsite education-related activities and programs.

Typical duties include:

*Leading educational field trips for students and community members visiting EBMUD facilities such as watersheds, treatment plants, and wastewater sites.

*Facilitating interactive, age-appropriate presentations on water conservation, water and wastewater systems, and environmental topics in local schools and community settings.

*Participating in community outreach events (e.g., weekend fairs, workshops, or tours), engaging with the public and representing EBMUD's values and services.

*Setting up and staffing educational booths, distributing outreach materials, and promoting awareness of water issues and EBMUD initiatives.

*Supporting the preparation and organization of outreach materials, such as posters, activity guides, and digital content.

*Tracking participation and feedback for events and presentations to support program evaluation and reporting.

*Collaborating with teachers and internal departments to align content with educational standards and community goals.

*Performing other related duties and responsibilities as required.


Requirements

1.A high school diploma, or its equivalent, and a minimum of six semester units of college coursework in education, childhood development, environmental science, communications, or a closely related field; and,

2.One year of experience working in the field of education, environmental interpretation, or public outreach, or a closely related field.

3.Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.

Other Requirements

*Must possess the physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the class including sufficient physical mobility to walk and stand for extended periods of time, and the physical ability to lift, carry, and assemble materials weighing up to 40 pounds including an easy-up canopy.

*Must be willing to work irregular hours, on a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays to lead and participate in outreach events, educational activities, and other programs.

*Must be willing to work outside of normal business hours, to support regular weekend community events, often on both Saturdays and Sundays.
