As a Division Project Engineer, you will lead the advanced design, engineering, and planning of gas systems from concept to commissioning. You will develop complex engineering solutions and project plans, ensuring adherence to Airgas's stringent safety, efficiency, and reliability standards. This role utilizes specialized engineering tools to ensure technical integrity and successful project execution within scope, on time, and on budget. You will also provide in-depth technical expertise to project managers, operations, and sales, especially for challenging or unique system requirements.

You will collaborate closely with the Bulk Project Manager and Regional Field Service Manager to develop detailed engineering designs and plans for all bulk-related activities, ensuring technical accuracy and alignment with project timelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Project Engineering & Design: Bulk Systems

  • Ensure all engineering designs and project plans adhere to Airgas' health, environment, and safety standards and all relevant codes and regulations.

  • Lead the advanced engineering design and planning of the Region's bulk and microbulk projects, including:

    • Complex system sizing and optimization.

    • Detailed engineering analysis for system estimates and budget development.

    • Creation of comprehensive engineering document packages for installations, including advanced P&IDs, sophisticated layout drawings, detailed Bills of Material (BOM), and customer infrastructure packages.

    • Process flow diagrams and mass/energy balance calculations for complex systems.

  • Provide expert technical consultation and support throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Collaborate with sales teams to understand customer technical requirements and develop innovative, compliant engineering solutions.

  • Propose and develop advanced technical solutions to overcome complex engineering hurdles and optimize system performance.

  • Conduct engineering reviews to ensure design integrity.

Technical Support & Asset Optimization

  • Provide in-depth technical support to project managers, operations, and field service teams for troubleshooting, modifications, and improvements.

  • Contribute engineering expertise to bulk asset inventory management and rehabilitation plans.

  • Develop and analyze technical KPIs for system performance and design efficiency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering. Master's degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive technical engineering experience with an emphasis on system design, process engineering, or project engineering in an industrial setting.

  • Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing complex engineering solutions.

  • Prior industry experience in industrial gases, cryogenics, or related process industries, including pressure systems, piping design, and control systems, is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong proficiency in engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, process simulation software) and P&ID development.

  • In-depth understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and materials science as applied to industrial gas systems.

  • Thorough knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, ANSI, NFPA, CGA).

  • Excellent technical written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple complex engineering tasks concurrently and prioritize effectively.

  • Highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently.

  • Demonstrated commitment to engineering excellence, quality, and customer satisfaction.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Regularly traverse through manufacturing, industrial, or office locations.

  • Frequently required to actively listen and exchange information.

  • Observe and assess information, including detailed engineering drawings and schematics.

  • Frequent use of computer, engineering software, telephone, and occasional operation of a motor vehicle.

  • May be required to remain stationary for extended periods.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Both indoor & outdoor environments in various seasonal weather conditions, including industrial settings.

  • Regional travel (up to 25%) occasionally requires overnight travel.

  • Requires a current driver's license.
