Job Summary:

The Clinical Engineering Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Clinical Engineering department, ensuring the safe, effective, and efficient use of biomedical technology throughout Mary Washington Healthcare. This role provides leadership, technical expertise, and operational management for biomedical technicians and staff, while serving as a liaison between clinical departments, vendors, and leadership. The Supervisor ensures compliance with regulatory standards, promotes patient safety, and supports the organization's mission through excellence in medical equipment management. The Biomedical Supervisor is responsible for leadership and direction in accordance with the organizational and departmental philosophy and goals. In conjunction with the Director, the Biomedical Supervisor will assist in maintaining operations supporting the strategic goals of MWHC.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and coordinates the daily activities of biomedical technicians and support staff, ensuring timely response to service requests, preventive maintenance, and equipment repairs.
  • Provides technical guidance and mentoring to staff, promoting professional development and competency in emerging medical technologies
  • Monitors departmental workload, assigns tasks, and evaluates performance to ensure quality service delivery and compliance with organizational standards.
  • Oversees medical equipment management programs, including inventory control, lifecycle planning, and technology assessments.
  • Ensures all services meet or exceed regulatory and accreditation standards (The Joint Commission, CMS, FDA, NFPA, etc.).
  • Collaborates with clinical and administrative leaders to evaluate new equipment requests, plan installations, and support capital equipment projects.
  • Maintains strong vendor and supplier relationships, negotiates service agreements and ensures timely resolution of escalated issues.
  • Tracks and reports departmental performance metrics, including equipment uptime, service response times, and cost efficiency.
  • Promotes a culture of safety, accountability, and customer service excellence within the department.
  • Assists the Director of Clinical Engineering in budgeting, staffing, and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Manages the facility Equipment Management Program to comply with regulatory standards.
  • Provides positive verbal and nonverbal communication. Demonstrates and fosters open and effective communication.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Electronics, Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Equipment Technology, or related field, or equivalent military training is required.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years related experience to acquire competency in applying biomedical and electronics principles required.
  • Strong analytical, technical, communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Effective goal, written and interpersonal communications skills required.
  • Must be detail and process oriented.
  • AAMI and or A+ certification preferred.
