Materials Analyst Position Summary:
The Materials Analyst is responsible for analyzing and procuring materials required for manufacturing while maintaining optimal inventory levels. This role ensures material availability, supports production schedules, manages supplier performance, and coordinates customer shipments, all while contributing to continuous improvement and organizational goals.
Materials Analyst Key Responsibilities:
Material Planning & Procurement
- Analyze material requirements using ERP/MRP systems.
- Issue purchase orders and manage expediting/de-expediting as needed.
- Maintain Visual Pull inventory systems.
- Adjust inventory levels, including safety stock, excess, and obsolete materials.
Inventory & System Management
- Conduct weekly system audits to ensure data accuracy (HP 3000 system).
- Create production releases and manage order documentation.
- Maintain accuracy of customer orders within the system.
Supplier & Vendor Management
- Manage complex or high-impact suppliers.
- Monitor vendor performance and drive lead time reductions.
- Support transitions to preferred suppliers per Global Strategic Sourcing (GSS) standards.
- Ensure compliance with the Approved Supplier List (ASL).
Customer & Order Fulfillment
- Serve as the main point of contact for customer orders and shipping schedules.
- Coordinate strip shipments, truck deliveries, and container exports.
- Work with Cell Managers and Order Launchers to align production bonding/costing schedules.
Logistics Coordination
- Schedule and follow up on inbound and outbound freight with transportation providers.
- Ensure on-time delivery of materials and customer shipments.
- Act as an inbound logistics specialist.
Compliance, 5S & Continuous Improvement
- Follow Quality Management System (QMS) procedures and recommend improvements.
- Adhere to Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) guidelines and suggest enhancements.
- Support and maintain 5S practices within material storage, inventory areas, and workspaces.
- Promote workplace organization and cleanliness to support safety, efficiency, and visual management.
- Participate in 5S audits and corrective actions as necessary.
Materials Analyst Education & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations, or related field preferred.
- 2-5 years of experience in materials management, purchasing, or planning in a manufacturing environment.
- Automotive industry background is a plus.
Materials Analyst Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems (HP 3000 preferred).
- Familiarity with Visual Pull or Constraint Management is a plus.
- Excellent communication and organization skills.
- Experience coordinating logistics and transportation.
- Understanding of and commitment to 5S and lean manufacturing principles.
Materials Analyst Work Environment:
- This position operates in both an office and manufacturing environment.
- Regular exposure to production floor conditions, including temperature fluctuations, noise, and moving machinery.
- Required to wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when on the plant floor.
- May involve standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods and occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.
- Standard work hours are day shift, Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime or weekend work based on production needs.
