Director/ Senior Director, Project Team Leader

As part of the Portfolio Strategy Management group within Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED), the Project Team Leader is accountable to the Early Stage Portfolio Committee (ESPC) for development, approval and execution of the molecule cross-functional asset strategy. In consultation with functional experts, the PTL brings together diverse perspectives to create end-to-end comprehensive plans that will deliver transformative medicines for patients. A successful candidate will be experienced in working in a complex matrix environment and demonstrate exceptional influencing and communication skills to move programs forward with a sense of urgency. The PTL must ensure alignment of project plans with overall enterprise strategies and objectives as well as foster timely resolution of program and disease-specific technical challenges.

The Opportunity:

The Director/Sr. Director Project Team Leader (PTL) leads projects and portfolio related activities across various therapeutic areas including ophthalmology, neuroscience, CVRM, oncology and immunology.

As an integral member of this dynamic team, you will be:

• Leading cross-functional Asset Teams focused on the early development of novel therapeutics including large molecules, small molecules as well as other therapeutic modalities from pre-IND/CTA to Phase III Go.

• Utilizing their deep understanding of disease biology and global drug development to deliver first/ best-in-class and/or best in disease therapeutic molecules ready for successful global development and commercialization.

• Providing strategic leadership and direction to Asset Teams, encompassing oversight of activities, budget, and project planning.

• Collaborating with key stakeholders (e.g., Research, Early Clinical Development, Development Sciences, Translational Medicine, Commercial, Finance, Regulatory, Manufacturing) to define project vision, strategy, product evaluation, scope, milestones, risk assessment, and investment requirements.

• Preparing and delivering high-quality presentations and documentation for senior management to facilitate informed decision-making across the portfolio.

• Contributing to annual prioritization, goal-setting, and business planning processes.

Qualifications/ Requirements:

• Advanced degree in life sciences or medicine (MD/ PhD/ MS) required

• Minimum of 7 years (Director) 10 years (Sr. Director) of industry experience in drug development, with a strong emphasis on early-phase non-clinical and clinical development including knowledge of regulatory requirements

• Demonstrated experience in leading teams within a matrix environment.

• Strong decision-making and analytical skills are required

• Proven ability to cultivate excellent cross-functional collaborations.

• Expertise in one or more of the core therapeutic areas

• Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with a track record of effective engagement with executive management.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $201,300- $373,800 (Director) and $247,000- $458,800 (Sr. Director). Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
