About the Position:

The Director, Dam Safety, Hydro and Civil Engineering has the responsibility and authority to ensure the dam safety programs and engineering projects are fully implemented and to ensure high standards are maintained for dam safety and regulatory compliance at all Ameren generating facilities. The position is the single point of contact for non-emergency regulatory communications from Ameren to FERC and reports directly to the Vice President, Engineering Design and Project Management. The Director is responsible for Dam Safety and Hydro Engineering projects and hydro licensing requirements. The Director also oversees the Civil/Structural Design, Substation Design Groups and Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR) management for Ameren Missouri Generation.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Manages and directs a team of engineering professionals and outside consultants in the on-going licensing efforts necessary to keep Ameren's regulated hydroelectric and dam facilities in compliance with current dam safety and FERC license requirements and regulations.

  • Protects long-term assets at the Ameren generating facilities by being aware of risks and abnormal operations and takes the conservative approach to maintain large assets and manage risk.

  • Produces a budget and creates an environment where stations have reliable, safe performance and operate within the budget.

  • Interfaces with several state and federal regulatory agencies to meet regulatory requirements and meet or exceed environmental compliance.

  • Develops long-range business plan and vision for department and communicates direction and status in a clear fashion to staff.

  • Responsible for Dam Safety within Ameren and has direct access to Ameren's Senior Management team concerning issues relating to Dam Safety.

  • Provides monthly updates of dam safety and compliance matters to the Vice President, Engineering Design and Project Management.

  • Provides direction for the Ameren Dam Safety Program and Hydro Project Engineering that supports Ameren's hydroelectric and dam facilities.

  • Responsible for licensing activities of the Ameren Hydro Facilities.

  • Oversees the Civil/Structural Design, Substation Design, and CCR Engineering functions for Ameren Missouri.

  • Responsible for CCR environmental projects including landfill developments, ash pond improvement and ash pond closure projects at Ameren generating facilities. The director is also responsible for management of CCR handling and marketing contracts and budgeting.

  • Ensures that Dam Safety, Hydro, Civil and CCR Environmental Engineering projects meet the requirements of the industry, regulatory authorities, and internal customers.

  • Acts as the single point of contact for correspondence related to dam safety and regulatory compliance between Ameren and FERC, IDNR, and MDNR, except for immediate notifications required by Emergency Action Plans.

  • Trains and develops department personnel concerning standards, procedures and methods to be used to carry out their duties and responsibilities.

  • Ensures Operation Plans, Maintenance Plans, Emergency Action Plans, and Inspection Plans are developed and coordinated with the applicable agencies.

  • Maintains effective communication with generating stations, other company departments and other stakeholders.

  • Ensures internal and external assessments and audits are performed on the Dam Safety Programs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's of Science in Civil, Mechanical or Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited university required.

  • Must be a licensed professional engineer (PE) and have 10 or more years of relevant work experience in design and project management in dam safety and/or hydro engineering.

  • 5 or more years of supervisory leadership or high-level team/project leadership is required. Direct people leadership experience is preferred.

  • An understanding of utility business operations is preferred.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

Proven analytical skills, ability to make sound decisions with ambiguous information and analyze complex data. Creative self-starter with strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively as a team and with various stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Strong business sense and demonstrated ability to use good judgement. Excellent communication skills (verbal/written/presentation). Proficiency with budgeting and reporting system preferred.

Ameren's selection process includes a series of interviews and may include a leadership assessment process. Specific details will be provided to qualified candidates.

Compensation Range:

$161,100.00 - $249,700.00

At Ameren, base salary is one component of a competitive compensation package for employees. Our pay ranges are broad to allow for movement within our organization and to accommodate different skill sets and levels of expertise. We take into consideration a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity when determining the base salary offered. Roles are eligible for additional rewards including annual incentive payments based on individual and company performance. Director and above positions also include a Long-Term Incentive Plan and the option to enroll in a Deferred Compensation Plan.
