Overview

This is a hybrid role that may be hired in Raleigh, Charlotte or NYC.

This position is part of the Compliance Strategy & Transformation team, reporting to the Executive Director - Compliance Strategy & Transformation, and is crucial in shaping and implementing best practices and targeted testing to enhance First Citizens Bank's compliance programs by overseeing audit readiness for regulatory and internal audit identified issues prior to validation. The Compliance Strategy & Transformation team is part of the Second Line of Defense Corporate Compliance function responsible for developing and executing the Compliance Risk Management Program of the Bank, which includes implementation of complex regulatory requirements that impact multiple systems, processes, and clients.

This role leads the Compliance Issue Validation Readiness team responsible for developing and managing various Compliance activities to prepare issues for validation, including developing best practices, engaging with Compliance teams throughout the issue remediation lifecycle, and review and challenge of closure documents. This position provides complex support and expertise to regulatory matters through research, data gathering, coordination, and executing internal procedures. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in working in internal audit or other testing/QA functions and possess the ability to build effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Strong interpersonal skills, clear communication, and consistent actions will be essential for establishing trust and credibility. Provides leadership for direct reports and leads special projects.


Responsibilities

  • Issue Validation Readiness - Serves as the point of contact for Compliance to oversee comprehensive and effective closure documentation for issue remediations to ensure timely and successful validation. Establishes working groups/tollgate meetings to provide updates and lead & coordinate meetings with the key stakeholders across three lines of defense in the bank. Ensures the quality control of closure documentation and supporting artifacts prior to submission. Proactively identify ways to improve successful closure of Compliance issues and support the leadership on the enhancement needs.
  • Quality Assurance: Responsible for the quality of work produced by the team. Ensures the accuracy, compliance, and completeness of required documentation and timely completion of the assigned issue validation readiness reviews.
  • Compliance Expertise: Able to quickly become knowledgeable regarding a wide array of Compliance topics while reviewing issues for validation readiness. Strong foundation in Compliance with ability to engage subject matter experts to understand and opine on the quality of issue closure materials.
  • Change Management and Continuous Improvement: Can quickly adapt to changes in a fast-developing environment. Provides ongoing recommendations to Head of Compliance Strategy & Transformation on process improvement and challenges faced by the team. Keeps a growth mindset and drives candid and open conversations with leaders for personal and team development.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of experience in Compliance, Legal, Audit, Regulatory Compliance Management, Banking or other related experience OR High School Diploma or GED and 12 years of experience in Compliance, Legal, Audit, Regulatory Compliance Management, Banking or other related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • JD or MBA
  • Strong working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint
  • Experience working in an internal audit or testing/QA function

License or Certification Type: Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) Preferred, Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) Preferred, Certified AML and Fraud Professional (CAFP) Preferred, Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) PreferredSkill(s): Ability to interpret a broad range of complex regulations and devise logical solutions, Knowledge of FL-related statistical analysis techniques, review methods, and prohibited factor identification and related issue remediation techniques, Knowledge of deposit, lending, and safety and soundness regulations impacting the financial services industry

The base pay for this position is generally between $120,000 and $165,000. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
