Responsibilities

Intake Coordinator(RN)

Nights (7pm-7am)

The Intake RN, under the supervision of the Intake Director, provides telephonic and in-person risk assessment to
assist the physician in identification of appropriate level of care for potential patients. The Intake RN is the initial
contact with referral sources and potential patients, coordinates the referral and intake process, facilitates the
admission process and maintains communication with referral sources, families, patients, and unit staff. The Intake
RN works with the Business Office regarding patient financial data and verification and prior authorization of
insurance benefits as needed, as well as with the UR Department for the certification of patients admitted.

The Psychiatric Institute of Washington provides comprehensive behavioral healthcare for children, adolescents, adults, and senior adults suffering from mental health and addictive illnesses. PIW is a 130 bed, short-term, acute care hospital offering inpatient, partial and intensive outpatient hospitalization, as well as specialized treatment programs for chemical dependency. PIW has an excellent reputation as an innovative hospital with caring, dedicated staff, experienced in the delivery of behavioral healthcare. Situated in the safe, historical Tenleytown neighborhood, PIW is one mile from the Tenleytown Metro stop and within walking distance to local cafes and restaurants.

The Intake Coordinator is accountable for coordinating the Assessment and Referral activities at the facility. This position involves extensive contact with the community and interfaces closely with the Director, utilization review staff, Hickory Trail Hospital business office staff and clinical staff to insure continuity of communication. This position is also responsible for inquiry calls, insurance verification, payment collections at the time of admission and scheduling of evaluations and admissions.


Qualifications

Education: Graduate from an accredited program of professional nursing required; Bachelor's
Degree preferred.
Experience: 2-3 years in substance abuse/psychiatric treatment programs, including experience in intake/admissions
and managed care preferred.
Licensure: Currently licensed to practice by the District of Columbia Board of Nursing.
Additional Requirements: CPR certification, Handle with Care and Verbal De-Escalation training within 30
days of employment prior to assisting in a restraining procedure.

Must be able to pass a competency exam for the
area upon hire.

May be required to work flexible hours, weekends, and overtime.

Additional Skills: Ability to communicate over the telephone and in face-to-face situations. Ability to handle multiple tasks effectively. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of all information.
